Recently noticed that the polyurethane bushings for my Icon Vehicle Dynamics upper control arms had minimal amounts of grease leaking/squishing out of it. I had installed them a year ago. According to the instructional manual, the only part that I have been giving strict maintenance to have been my delta ball joints, greasing them every 5k miles through the zirk fitting. For the initial install, I had liberally pre-greased the poly bushings as instructed. I've tried searching through this forum as much as I can but it seems from what I found is that many people don't grease their bushings or are unable to due to no port/fitting to fill grease into it. I was wondering if this is a sign of premature wear or if i had just overfilled them by alittle.

All helpful info and advice is appreciated. Thanks!

The poly bushing will leak some grease. If they are greaseable and it bugs you give them another shot of grease.

I was under the impression you need to grease the bushings as well. I'm planning on doing mine about every 5000 miles when I grease the Delta joint. I think you have to loosen the through bolt first though to get any grease to flow.

Bushings: Lift truck, support with no weight on suspension, remove tires, loosen pivot bolt nut, pump grease, reinstall tires, set back on ground, torque pivot bolt nut 85 ft lbs.
Delta Joint: Grease at ride height... turn wheel left to right for full coverage.
Every 3-5,000 miles (or every oil change.)

    All the things!
    A couple things...

If you run poly bushings, no need to torque at ride height. Just torque in the air, with the wheels off.

As you torque the UCA bolt, and after it's fully torqued, purge the zirc, by using a pick to push the zirc nipple. This will purge the excess grease and prevent blowing out your bushings.

I think it's mainly for access for the grease gun and wrench... easier to clean & applyy Boeshield T-9 afterwards too.

Thanks for the response. Also thanks for mentioning the Boeshield T-9. I hadn’t heard of that before now but have been researching different rust proofing products. I have seen Fluid Film, Wool Wax, and Cosmoline but I haven’t seen this one. I do a lot of fishing and hunting on the coast and I’m looking for something that will protect against saltwater and sand. Do you know how the Boeshield compares to the others I mentioned?

I’ve got the Icons, you don’t have to remove the wheels to grease them, the delta joint and the bushings.

The Boeshield T-9 is clear compared to the others and less tacky... doesn't seen to attract dirt as much. I mainly use it on the front/rear suspension parts... for everything else i use Fluid Film.

Thanks for this. One of my main concerns about the coatings is sand sticking to them and harming the suspension. I previously had the Icon uniball UCA's and sand destroyed the lining the ball sits in. This was before they offered the cap. I know that’s less of a concern with the Delta joint but it's still a concern. It sounds like the Boeshield is the best option I've heard of so far.

i'd still clean them on a regular basis and reapply as needed. I use the coil wraps up front and boots on the back... seems to help.

I have one more dumb question. When greasing the UCA bushings where would be the best place for the jack stands? Just on the frame?

that's where i put them... maybe throw the tires under there too just in case and remember to chock the rear tires. As DavesTaco68 mentioned above you might not even need to remove tires though... i haven't tried that yet.
