Hey All - I'm looking to replace my Icon upper control arms. The constant squeeking is driving me nuts. I replaced the uniball about 6 months ago (have about 6k miles) and use the recommended teflon but, nothing seems to help. I am looking for a non-uniball set-up that for less than $500 AND will not rub on my tires (295's) approx 3" lift. Any thoughts?
    Also, selling my Icon UCA...:)

Thanks in advance for the help-
    Edgar

Stupid question, but have you tried to grease the bushings? I have TC UCAs and when they start to squeak/creak it means the bushings need grease. At least that's been the case for me. :notsure:

I have several times. It worked for a bit so I supposed it could also be the bushings. I did a little searching and it.looks like Icon now sells a delta joint retrofit, so I think I'll try that.

Did you use the DRY lube as instructed? I'm under the impression the other types will eat away at the joint.

check out Icon's new Delta joint. i was in the same boat as you and was ready to give up on the Icons than they came out with the Delta joints. had wheelers send me a set...swapped out my uniballs and these are butter. nice and smooth and absolutely no noise. they replacement kit is about $260 but its alot less than new arms. hope this helps. edit: just saw you mentioned them..lol. didnt read the whole thread.. anyways, you'll love them.

How hard are those to retrofit? How do they install?

Per icon they said don't grease and keep them clean. My brothers icons loosened up drastically on 1 year. Tires all over the road.

He is ordering the Delta's and hoping they last. I know at this moment I'll never recommend icon to any one again.

as easy as replacing the uni-balls. remove the retaining clip and press the old ones out....press the new ones in and reinstall the new retaining clip. if you have the press tool it can even be done without removing the control arms from the vehicle.

cant speak on the durability just yet but as far as maintenance and noises....he'll be very happy with it. it instantly felt like a new truck after i installed these. first set of uniballs lasted 2 years... the replacement uni-balls were noisey and binding from the day i replaced them (only put approx 3000 miles on the last set of uni-balls).
these just need to be greased like a standard ball joint every oil change.

Any advice on removing the uniballs? I have icon tubular UCA's and purchased the delta joints because the uniballs are shot. I took the control arm off and removed the retaining ring and used a ball joint removal tool. I couldn't get them to budge. I'm wondering if they are seized in there. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

i soaked mine with penatrating oil for an hour or so before attempting to remove and they came out easy. if you tried that and it
didnt work than you may need to get it on a press. if you dont have access, any machine shop should be able to remove them for you.

Do the delta joints replace any 1" uniball or are they Icon specific?

Found mine battered and bruised because (I'm guessing) the top bolt for the uniballs came loose allowing the bottom section to separate. From the looks of it, that gap was open allowing the bottom part to smash into the upper part long enough that it deformed. That being said, I have delta joints on the way as we speak. Ironic I posted in this thread a while back and now need them too!

I am also having trouble with the noise coming from my icon UCAs, is this common?

I had only had mine for about a year and the teflon lining around the uniball deteriorated allowing crud in causing then to squeak. I live in New England so we get all fpur seasons. I've since purchased yhe delta joints but have yet to install them.

I have had mine for about 2500 miles and the squeaking started much before now. It is pretty unbearable when i turn at slow speeds.
