    Re: OME vs. Icon

Both are quality at their price points. But there's a reason for the cost difference. OME is definitely a step better than Toytec's Bilstein/Eibach combo.

Yes, I will be at the meet. I will remove the shock in next few hours and take few pics.
Hopefully I can take care of this, prior the meet.

    Thank you for the offer.

Just checked the right side shock also. Friday night it had just a slight film of oil (what I consider normal). Today I checked again oil all over the shock the same as the left side. All I did yesterday is -200 miles on the highway. Are the new tires 285/75/16 that harsh on these shocks ????. Ohhh men , am I PISSED. Spent all this money and a year latter I have to put more time and money ???

If there will be only one ?? yes is a fluke. But two ???

I took some pics of the shocks and the internals. Really no science to take them apart and rebuilt them if you are a little bit mechanically incline.
The only thing that will need someone for is- Nitrogen fill up. U need 250 psi and as close is possible.

#1- pic of the second (right side)shock leak,
    #2-pic of the internal
#4 - pic of the second seal that is leaking. You can see the dirt right inside the seal

Just a thought i bought mine knowing they are rebuildable and have had other brands ,Rancho 9000 , Radflow with ebich 750's,and started with bilsteins of wich failed three times covered under warranty. I went with radflow's and rebuilt them two times in 5 years . they are currently on my Girls ride and doing great . As for my Icon's 2.5's on the front and 2.0 with external rezzy's i am happy and will be ready for a rebuild when they need them. I had no problem paying the coin .Now if i bought a set that could not be rebuilt i might be upset . Its nat a big deal to build them again and will be as good as the day you bought them .Now seeing you are in NJ i would keep them lubed IE:WD40 or something to stop it from rusting . I would have the shafts polished if you can .I lived in NJ so i have been there and done that . I hope all go's well and its not a biggy . Hope this helps.

I agree that they have to be rebuilt at one time or another. But this truck see 99% highway during the week ends. You telling me that they change something and is acceptable to spend $2-300, every year, to rebuilt ???? The same thing I did with my 05 with the same set up. I sold the truck with 100k miles and the shocks where dry as a bone.

I feel you man, I had my fox's on for about a week then they crapped out and there's no one in Hawaii that can re-build them and I don't have the $$$$$ to send them away to be done

You might need to find someone else to rebuild them . I was lazy and didnt feel like doing it and it only cost 85.00 bucks to do both start to finish.

I have no problem doing my self. If you look at my pics in post #31 ,, I all ready took everything apart and ready to install it back. I am just waiting to see if ICON's is willing to share the bill. The shafts (both) and new seals all around is a pretty steep bill after only one year of usage on the highway. Don't you think ???
Hopefully they will help with the parts ??? Is going to be a loooong night.

No real thoughts to speak of. Just watching this thread with interest. Also, user icon2 is viewing this thread. Hmm.

It is interesting to read about this though after the half-assed packaging job that scraped up my coils.

You can take fine sand paper and clean up the shafts. If they are pitted beyond repair I'm sure Icon will work with you. They once sent me parts overseas under warranty and I totally admitted it was my fault, they have always taken care of me and everyone I know of. Good people for sure. On a side note, if you squirt the grime off with a garden hose once in a while they won't rust like that. With basic maintenance those shocks will last the life of your truck.

Thank's for making me smile. This is New jersey. Not much four wheeling here. I still don't get the fact that they -the shocks- give up soo quick.
