Your truck is just so photogenic. Everybody wants a piece. First the tw cards and now this.

It just says our names under them and that they are 2nd gens basically. Not exactly like giving credit.

I totally hear Ben's concern over this. It is a matter of respect for the photographer. Publications, at the very least, need to seek permission from the author to use content. Ideally, they should give the photographer credit for the pic. In some situations the publication has to pay for the right to reprint photographs. Not sure that is appropriate in these circumstances but it would have been nice to at least ask for permissions before publishing.

Also that 60" hi-lift fit in my tool box really easy didn't have to take it apart or anything. I was going to try it out by lifting my truck up from the sliding but the snow was too slick and the jack would just slide out from under the weight.

 

Yeah true. They may have just assumed that I took the pic since I posted the pic on their FB page.

They just assumed Brady took it. By him posting it there he gave them permission to use it.

I don't think it's that big a deal for this. It's a tiny cropping if Ben photo..not a huge half or full page feature. For the "members" truck photos no one really cares who took it. They do that in ton of magazines. And none ice seen get credit.


And Ben no I don't go wheeling wi you everywhere...tho that would be fun..but you d always have your camera and always report..and I have yet to see anything drastic taken or reported that I haven't seen...

 

This is the core issue. And you are not alone in thinking the content is free to use. Personally, I disagree and think this is incorrect thinking. IMO, a photograph is a piece of art. Because a piece of technology was used to create it, does not make it any different from brush strokes on a piece of canvas.

I agree too. But if your posting stuff on the Internet..it's free..period. You can't do anything to stop that..other then not post. Or get a website that's super tight.

I don't think it's a big deal either as Ben isn't an aspiring photographer to one day sell and make a living off them. He is just a hobbyist

Yeah, I would agree with that. If I were just a hobbyist I would be happy just to see my pics show up somewhere. Not like it matters if people you don't know know they are your pics and you can just tell people you know that those are your pics.

Monte, it does not matter whether you consider Ben an amateur or a hobbyist. It was his creation. And you are correct that the pic was posted on a public forum but that does not make it yours to do whatever you want with.

Personally, I know all of these things and the potential for this to happen. When I post pics on here, I do it because I think you will enjoy them and I derive pleasure from that. I would only hope that you would respect me enough to ask me if it is OK to post them elsewhere and not assume it is OK.

Brady, I do not believe your intent was wrong. These are things we don't always think about. It is up to Ben to determine whether or not it is OK that Tacoma Mag used his pic without his permission.

I was stating that it's a public forum. It's the Internet. And not everyone has an account or is going to ask anyways. People just copy and paste all he time. Hell we do it in here too..

I'm just saying I don't think Ben has really the right to get upset if he even does..he has never stated that no one could borrow his shot or to credit. And even if he does it'll probably happen anyways..

But yes I get the whole creating thing. I am worried about it all the time when I post music..

 

At the point when it is on their face book page I would think they have permission to use it in their mag. In the future I would say that this is a lesson to stamp all of your pics with a little watermark in the corner Ben.

 

This^^^^. My brothers Ex girl friend owns Britt Rene photography and she stamps every pic befor she uploads them. we had a hell of a time just getting FredMeyer to prit some off for us cuz they needed to know they were released due to the stamp on the pics.
