Doesn't need a ton more power. But a small turbo to pump it up to 250hp would be nice i think.

I'm popping in late on this since I don't check this thread every day, but noticed some comments about running the Rubicon with IFS. The Rubicon is tough for sure but there are some optional parts that can make it very difficult. The Little Sluice is not even close to the same as it was when i've run the trail in the past, but that was one of the most gnarly trail sections in the country. From the photos I've seen recently the Little Sluice *might* be doable in an IFS rig, but would still be tough. Prior to it getting blasted and filled in.......no way in hell. I've driven it twice in the past with my FJ40 and it was crazy and I think there was more luck involved than anything in getting through it.

Hard to get a sense of just how big the rocks *Were* in the little sluice but this is my FJ40 at the very beginning of it the last time I did that obstacle.
    rubiconMoneypit2_zps98d279f1_ca0e272c0061ba48a8df85d909337fe422031ef0.jpg

This shows a little better. A friend in a really built 40 on 37's. He didn't make it that day.
    danbox_327197272dbe9ba5fcb34dd7b8a993e4d96d4cef.jpg

It's really sad that the Little Sluice got nuetered. But I guess more people can drive that section now.

The other sections I would bypass with IFS are the Old Sluice. That is a really tight technical section that you need lots of flex for. It's common to get body damage in this section too.

This is a buddy in his FZJ80 in the Old Sluice. He hammered his rocker panels (even with sliders) and his rear quarter panels and D pillars. Lots of body damage for a rig this size in the Old Sluice. A 2nd Gen long bed would be a nightmare in the Old Sluice.

This is my 40 again at probably the most difficult spot of the old sluice. A long wheelbase would be tough here. it's tight quarters to get around the big rocks and as you can see it works your suspension
    rubi_flex_7249228a08d05c075f6a35151a94a8c92ee1f64b.jpg

But the cool thing is you can bypass both of those sections of trail. The first time I ran the trail we had a '96 1st Gen Tacoma with us that had a 2.5" lift and 32's with a factory rear locker. Stock bumpers and skids. He made the whole trail. He was draggin on a lot of stuff and got a bit of body damage but he survived. So it's definitely doable in a Tacoma. there is lots of fun challenging stuff on the trail.

Our local club is planning to run it later this summer so that will be my first chance to run it in my Tacoma. I'm really looking forward to it.

    Thanks Adam.

i wouldn't really think we would hit the real big obstacles  I know i wouldn't try unless i had dual lockers and a crawl box.

But the rest should be do able and fun with one locker id think. Jealous your going this summer.

Maybe you'll make it out there when we go :p haha

Hey Ben, have you measured how tall your tires are at street psi? Just wondering how close they are to what they are rated. Mine are supposed to be be just over 33" and measured right at 33" at 42 psi. At 20 psi the only measure 32".

Also why are you looking to go wider? Why not get a 235/85 AT? Tired of all the skinny tire teasing going on?
