    Thanks man!! Hopefully I can get away from the in-laws early enough tomorrow to get to CO at a decent time. 8 hours if I only stop for gas once. I'll likely stop for gas twice and to get food and bathroom breaks.

    But tearing boots goes with the territory. :confused: When you lifted it you knew this could happen.

    I've always wondered what the long term effect of the boot slide mod was going to be. Seems like a bogus solution to the problem. Now that I think about it, everyone I know that has done it has ended up tearing boots.

    Yes I did. Although idk if either where a result if it. As one if mine tore in the roll and then the other I didn't do the inner boot for some reason which tore..

    Kona did it too


    Also I'd like to add Ben I told you you would have boot issue without some weight up front...

    That boot looks pretty stretched. I wonder if you should have slid the boots in a little when you lifted the front a little more.
    The boot slide mod is what caused mine to tear... I apparently slid the passenger side one too far. Didn't realize it when I did it but after I took it for a drive it caused the boot to wrinkle inwards on itself. I attempted to fix it but no matter what I tried I couldn't get the wrinkle out so I gave up. Didn't think it would cause my boot to tear but that is where it tore though.

    Im not saying the hose clamp is a terrible idea...but I think it would fit and tighten down a lot more with the proper clamp and clamping ratchet thingy.

    Toyota cars and Honda atvs the CV axles are a pain in the dick to get out the differential (my experience) but they come out when you least expect it and you end up on your @ss in about .001 seconds lol

    Haha yours is probably lifted almost 3" man. You have bro lean with a 2" AAL and the front of our rigs sits 1" lower up front. Your well past 2.5". Why I said get skids or a bumper ASAP.

    But I bet you just over stretched it.

    I'm not replacing mine. Lots of guys don't.

    My recomendation is to just not mess with it. Keep an eye on it. When it tears all the way around you will know it. It'll start throwing grease all over. Swap axles then.

    In the mean time, save your pennies for an autozone/o'rielly/advanced auto one and have it ready for the day you really need it.

    I think I paid $100 for one shipped to me for free no tax from advanced auto

    The whole reason the mod uses the hose clamps is because the oem clamps aren't tight enough to hold the boot in place after you slide it out.
    I see.

    I cranked mine pretty damn tight otherwise they would just slide back into place.

    I don't think I can afford to let one of my joints go bad... Almost impossible to find spares in a junkyard and OEM's cost $500 from the dealership... And since I am locked up front I would like chew up the Autozone ones especially when I go to bigger tires... Boot kit cost me $30 from the dealership.

    This is the main problem with the Eibach coils and some of the OME coils. They give too much lift, the result is too much axle angle. As Monte pointed out, the only defense is to pull the front down with weight so the axle angles get back to a point where the boot fins wont touch.

    Unfortunately, you are going to tear boots if you do nothing and its looking like the boot slide mod is not the answer either.

    Yeah.. I'm doing a diff drop kit which I know won't do much at all. Hopefully I get lucky and get a plate bumper this summer.

    Yeah, the true boot mod involves welding a stop on the shaft that keeps the boot from moving inward. Not relying on a clamp to do that

    I only rolled without a bumper for a month and a half.


    I do t care if I blow an axle. I know where to get two new OEM ones. Plus good reason to LT it hahaha
