Well, I'm taking the ACT for the 3rd time tomorrow. Instead of wheeling or whatever else normal people do on the weekends.

 

I was just looking at the specs and a Double cab 1st gen Tundra is just a little bigger than a 2nd gen DCLB (taller, wider, and longer). The 2nd gen 4.0 puts down almost exactly the same amount of power with a bit less torque but the 4.0 gets 3-4 mpg better according to the EPA ratings. Also looking at East Coast Gear Supply it looks like the 1st gen Tundras run the exact same diffs are the 1st gen and 2nd gen Tacoma's only I think the whole rear end itself is a few inches wider. Oh and the kicker, the DCLB Tacoma can turn a bit tighter. About like comparing a DCLB turning radius to your 1st gen access cab turning radius.

 

Well I'll try lol. And what would you suggest I do to make it better then cbis

 

On a side note I just watched the hobbit. Pretty good I thought. Glad they broke it up though. My ass was killing me half way through the movie. Not a fan of sitting in a movie theater for that long.

 

Hmmm. Very interesting. Well i wouldn't get a double cab either way that's for sure, but from the sounds of that if you were starting out with a platform the taco looks to be a better option

Don't flare them up so high. Just follow your grill and it'll be fine.

 

Oh ok. So keep the top of the guards level with the hood? That was pretty much my plan anyway. Hopefully whenever I make em they turn out good. I think it's gonna look pretty sick

Just depends on what you were going for ultimately. For the dunes/desert I think you could wheel anything you can get/make LT kits for really.

For crawling. I really like having a Taco. Seen too many short wheel base rigs flop lately in the Moab thread for my liking. haha

 

well ya. i hate short wheel base...for everything. X cab taco length is perfect. And im looking at heading in 4x4 LT direction. Its more a question of what it takes to get my truck there with 35s or if it is easier to just start with a different platform.

 

Or did you mean a different kind of long travel.......

2.5x8 coilovers

Rear bed cage.

14-16" shocks

Relocated leaf hangers, new leafs, long ass shackles 10" probably..

Then hydro or air bumps, triple bypasses, limit straps, fiberglass fenders.


The tubbing the fire wall for 35s.

Ok here's what I did today..welded the rest of the left up and the right minus the legs. Got the plates and gussets fabbed out...I'm fucking tired. Been working since 7 am ..I'm passing out...see you at 8 Mark. Oh yeah, my dad is riding shotgun tomorrow...here's the crappy cell phone pic as always.

5.29s should help power wise.

CV wise you stuck with Tundra CVs. A bit stronger, but not much.

Or custom.
