    Zero preload is when you jack up the front of the truck to full droop and back off the preload collar until the spring is fully decompressed and moves freely. Compressing that spring at full droop is "preload". The amount the truck sinks from full droop when you let it off the jack is sag. Increasing preload decreases sag. Race sag is typically 40% of total shock travel or so (60 uptravel 40 droop). Of course tuning this for the terrain and your driving style is common, and anywhere near 50/50 is good for speed. Hillbillies around here typically have 90% uptravel and 10% droop, or what I like to call redneck sag. Rides like shit but you can fit big swampers lol.

    Yeah I understand that, but what about taking a 16" coil and jamming it into a shock that is built for a 13" coil and not moving the collar (5100's don't have threaded collars, just 4 slots, 0", 0.75", 1.5" and 2.5"). Wouldn't that coil technically be preloaded 3"? 885's and 886's are strong enough springs to harshly slam 5100's to full extension. Hell I guess it is even worse for the actual OME shocks they were designed for because they have less travel than 5100's. 2wd's often complain of the shocks making banging noises on pots holes because they are so much lighter, and the banging noise has been determined to be the coil violently maxing out the shock.

    what is with the traffic going westbound from ellensburg on I-90. It came to a complete standstill. 150 miles of stop and go. Ridiculous

    Didn't get home until 11;30 last night. Ended up back tracking to Yakima and over Chinook pass. The good news was there was no traffic that way except for deer. The bad news is that at least 20 of those rodents tried to become hood ornaments. It was very nerve wracking.

    You had it all spread out to catch water and let it flow to your tent. :mad: You want it as small as possible, preferably under the perimeter of the rainfly if at all possible. If it won't fit completely under and you need to leave a little exposed, leave it exposed on the downhill side so the water runs away.

    I am quite positive they don't even make a footprint for that awesome antique tent, but if you can find a very similar footprint for another North Face model, consider getting it. Ideally, you would actually be able to secure at least a few of its grommets under your pole tips. Ultimately, a lot smaller and easier and less crunchy...:p

    Then, stake and guy the shit out of the fly to fan away from the bottom of the tent. An inch can make a big difference. Especially if you're a virgin.:eek:

    Yes, you are right to use the grommets on the fly. Strap that shit down tight. Usually I would not use extra guy lines unless I expected lots of wind or heavy rain. And the idea is to get stuff tight so there are no (or nearly no) wrinkles in the fly. Aim for that... You generally don't' need all of them all the time, and sometimes you might need just a couple key ones to protect more vulnerable areas, depending on conditions. Go to a park and practice with them, see how it works, get all your knots practiced up, and BOYSCOUT UP!

    Same site, different angle. Had to use rocks in many cases because the soil was very shallow over a granite slab that I could not stake into. So don't take no as an answer when it comes to stakes...
