Having the forklift made a big difference. If you don't have that luxury, make sure you have at least the 2 other sets of hand/muscles. With the winch mounted in the bumper, it is VERY awkward to handle and get mounted.

Also, plan out where you are going to put the solenoid box or at least the plug for the remote cable. That was one of the reasons I upgraded. I am moving the remote cable into the cab. I'll still have 12' of cable so I can either operate the winch from within the cab or stand outside and do it.

Steep downhills are the ONLY downside to an auto on the trail. Having a lower crawl ratio negates any downside.

 

I have access to a 14k/lbs excavator I can hang it from the bucket no problem. I'm actually meeting Tim in Pdx to pick up the bumper.

 

I didn't have the Warn m8000. I had the Smittybilt 8000 (model is XRC8). Yes is fixable. My fried Mark (The Raisin) is drooling over it as I write this.

IMO the XRC8 is a great starter winch. It is very inexpensive at $299 with a steel cable. I suppose I was a bit lucky in that it got stuck in the 'engaged' position. Nonetheless, it never let me down when I need it it for recovery.

 

I've had pretty good luck with Warn in the past I think i'll stick with them.

you can get steel wheels for about half that price. depending on the style

 

I want the "beadlock" look the other ones I'm looking at are 180 each

 

wheelers has them for 78 in plain black steel no bead lock

 

I think the FJ team trails are only 7.5" wide i need at least an 8" wide wheel for 315s

 

I need the rim to be physically wider. The spacers will help clear the spindle and UCA but 315s on a 7.5" wheel will look kinda funny and be kinda dangerous when aired down
