Speaking of school, guess who's program at ISU is likely getting closed soon... This guys... My teacher told us that they are reorganizing the entire college of Science and Engineering (the two colleges merged into one a couple years ago due to budget cuts). Well currently the College of S&E is $1.4 million in debt and with the projected budget will be another $1 million in debt by the end of this next year. The entire University is doing huge program reviews with plans of closing down programs and apparently the College of S&E has deemed the EE program as not bringing in revenue (prior to the coming reviews of programs) and may cut it and replace it with an EE technician BS degree. The are also handing the Computer Science BS degree over to the College of Business:crazy:

Anyway the gist of all that, my teacher said he straight up asked the dean of the college of S&E if the president was going to close the EE department and the dean just ignored/brushed the question off and refused to answer it. That tells me one of two things, either he is going to cancel it for sure, or he is trying to fight for it but doesn't think the fighting will go well. Probably the first option though...

Luckily he said the accreditation program ABET will force the college to give us all enough time to graduate or they will yank the accreditation of the rest of ISU's engineering and tech programs from them. My professor also thinks (but wasn't positive) that the Northwest something or other accreditation program (this program accredits all of the universities in the northwestern region of the US on a federal level, without it none of your student can get student loans or fafsa and I think you lose all federal funding as well) will require ISU to let us graduate as well or it will pretty much crash the entire university. haha

I forgot to mention that even though they will allow us to finish the program seems to be going to shit and will only get worse if they decide to close it. They laid off one professor over the summer and transferred several to other departments leaving only 4 professors in the EE dept and they are so swamped trying to teach all the EE classes this semester that they can't even offer up office hours.

So on the off chance that it gets even worse I may do my senior year elsewhere. I was thinking U of I but Bozeman and Butte might not be too bad either.

Both are good schools - I went to Tech (not EE) and Mac goes there now for Petrol. Best bang for your buck...I got through school debt free and I had zero scholarships. MSU has a great eng. college period. I work with several civil and structure guys from there. Might want to check things out and see how things transfer over for you. Better to have a contingency plan if/when TSHTF than to be left wondering what to do

Also, as a word of warning, if professors are taking on more courses, courses that they have not taught before, stay away!!!! When I was going to school there was a degree program being phased out and the main professor was retiring. Well he only had the 2nd year classes to teach since there were no 1st year students so the school had him teaching a couple of beginning classes for other degree programs. Including the drafting program. I got stuck in a class with him for civil/surveying. To do surveying you have to know trig but it wasn't a prereq for the course. I had taken trig so I was following along fine...the rest of the 16 or so students were not however. So he would "teach" the class and the following hour the classroom was vacant I ended up giving everyone a crash course in trig. He didn't give a crap, he was retiring and was forced into teaching this class. That went on until my course work was piling up and then I went to my advisor/dept head and told him that something needed to be done - either someone else needed to teach the class or I needed to be put on the payroll! They found someone else the following week and that prof "opted" for early retirement
