You haven't been seeing all these posts on Toyotaholics? It's called a full elliptical leaf spring setup I believe. Some of those guys seem to love it. To me it looks like a way to get a lot of lift out of 2 cheap junkyard leaf packs.

Here's a 3/4 elliptical setup. Apparently these setups can droop as much as a good link setup pretty easily. The downside is the axle don't follow an arc like a linked setup does so they over flex the drive shafts if you aren't careful.

Exactly! haha. Linked is where it is at unless you need good weight capacity. Then you are stuck with leafs.

My guess is that leafs weren't of the best quality 150ish years ago and by double stacking them you could get a smoother ride. Nowadays we can just build a good leaf pack to run by itself for less than 2 leaf packs and the companies are all about cutting costs. haha
