Technically infinity stroke, but if you had to quantify it maybe a 3 stroke is more accurate. Technologically, they are dinosaurs compared to F1 race engines and even modern sport bike engines like the MV Agusta F4RR. One liter displacement, 200 horsepower. That would be like getting 800HP out of our V-6 motors.

I'd still consider rotaries 4 stokes. They still have an intake, compression, ignition, and exhaust "stroke"

Torspd is trying to get 800 HP out of his 1GR:cool: It has a stroker kit on it making it a 4.4L (it's really about 0.5L bigger than stock now) and a big ass Turbo, can't remember the exact model. The motor is currently being built up pretty solid and he dropped the compression down to 9:1 or just under to allow for better performance under boost.

Before all this he got almost 600HP out of it on a smaller turbo and almost 16 psi.

He also has swapped out the OEM Tcase for an AWD tcase (33/66 front to rear power ratio) and the 6 spd OEM tranny for a T56.

    Isn't he going twin turbo.

    And he also bored it.

No, I'm pretty sure he is sticking to just one turbo. Toon is the one that wants to go twins.

He did bore it to like 15 thousandths, but that doesn't really affect displacement. Just cleans up the cylinder walls.

True, but the F1 engines get 800HP out of 2.4liter displacement, all naturally aspirated (the 2014 motors will have turbos and be smaller). They can turn 20,000 rpms, but are limited to 18,000. Imagine if you boosted one.

Fuck that is crazy! I take it they aren't like a conventional engine are they? ie the same piston, crankshaft, etc setup like we have. Or do they just manage to hit those kinds of rpm by having less pistons and just being built for it?

1.56" stroke. 3.85" bore (same size as a chevy 350). It's called an "oversquare" motor.

yes, 1.6L compound turbo V6, but they will be limited to 15,000 rpm.

I think it will slow down lap times a lot for the first couple of years. It's getting pretty boring and predictable these days.

True. I like allowing teams to build the best car they can. If they dominate sweet! If not, then get on a new design and get competitive! Best way to improve a sport right there.

    this^^

F1 motors tolerances are sooo small that technically when the motor is cold..its a solid piece of metal. they have to heat up the motor before they can even start it.

    if only..

    that'll never happen.

people like control too much, put rules on everything.

Very true Ben, where have the days of old gone, when crazy was ridiculed until proven victorious!? Part of our stagnant engineering and keeping drivers at the forefront has stinted the ability to progress the sport/engineering genius beyond what it is capable of with the current limitations... Lets bring back a bit of crazy and make it a bit more about the mesh of driver and machine!
