I didn't use it much with the rain......

also..... we had some issues on a 4 runner this weekend.... thank god he had upgrded link ends with grade 8 hardware..... so we got him home with this trail fix

 

I bent a couple of those, but never broke one. I upgraded mine to F911 hardware, but grade 8 will be ok too. The real question is why it sheared...if you are using the uniball as a limit strap...they don't last long.

Looks like you weren't going to fast into the wash. That's good. I hit one at night doing about 60. Stopped like a bug on a windshield. Broke radiator, core support, skid, bent frame, etc. I hate wash outs.

 

yah i was going slow to go around the tree....... last year that wash wasnt even near that big, of course like a dummy I didnt spot the ground for undercut, well I found out the hard way, atleast I didnt end up on my roof, one inch more the left, the whole left side of the rig would have slid into the wash



now for the trail fix.......

the top bolt that holds the UCA, apparently the nut wasnt torqued correctly and we had just finished some high speed thorugh some rock bed...... it vibrated off and we started descending a hill....... so to get the bolt to stay on we stole the balljoint nut as it was the same pitch and size and than to make the LBJ complete we bolted it together with the link ends

we got him off the trail and to the nearest town, found a guy willing to open his doors for us to scrounge the nut, once back together all was good, except he lost his alignment washers for the bushings...... needless to say thank god he broke on mud not rock....

 

I see. On all suspension stuff try to use lock nuts, or loctite. I'm always shocked at how many nuts and bolts loosen up after a hard run. I'm also surprised by how many people never check critical fasteners.

 

i was pissed.... we kept pulling stuff off that was supposedly locktited and nothing, and than oh it was torqued like hell, and I could pull it off with just a regular socket and ratchet, no snipe or anything



I have some shop nights planned with some of my boys now....



granted I learned the hardway too, BUT i also had paid someone to go through my front end and they missed some stuff too....

 

I have never had bolts on my taco come loose but it happend on my SAS'd 94 so every oil change was everything got a wrench put on it..

 

eh shit happens is how I feel about it...


and I jsut finished the longest facebook status of my life lol
