Ah, yeah. I was looking at putting an LCE header on mine, and it was gutless in the mountain highways with a load. But it would crawl up a wall. But then half of that is tranny.

TRD super charger, URD fuel mods and 2.1 super grip pully, Headers, 2.5" glass pack, Dana 60 front 4 linked, 14bolt rears on chev 63's, 5.38 gears, ARB locker in the front, PSC full hydraulic steering, 18" SAW 2.5" triple rate coils overs, FOA 2.5 air bumps, B&M launch controls, B&M trans cooler, 4 alpine 6X8 type R's amped, Red led rock lights, CBI front and rear bumpers (my design) CBI sliders, 4 riggid dualys front 2 in the rear, custom track bar, ARB snorkle, warn VR8000 winch, Viair 480c twin compressers..
I did that to mine did a cam and injectors and header intake mods all sorts of shit.. it would smoke the tires in first gear but on the freeway still was a pile.. got good mpgs and would walk up a wall in 4lo but no high speed stuff.. good motor if you dont mind the lack of power.

Point i was making is if you want that power swap in a bigger motor.. there is no replacement for displacement..

Yes. Dependable, yes (as long as the timing chain guides don't go south unnoticed), fast, no. Especially in a 4x4 Xtra cab...

I don'thave one anymore, but yeah, I remember inspecting the plastic guides every time I did the valves, and I researched the metal replacement guides just in case...

Yay interference engines...

I understood that the 3.4s are non-interference.

I think youre thinking of the 3.0V6 it was a non-interference engine.

Ok, let's settle this once and for all.... for the 1999 Toyota 3.4L engine, they are non-interference. this is from actual measurments of the valves at full open, Both the intake
and exhaust extend 3.8mm beyond the mating surface of the head. The piston is cupped and is 4.6mm deep. that is a .8mm gap without adding the thickness of the head gasket.

Where did I aquire this information, easy, I measured it myself.......

Maybe this is why there is confusion; valves extend below the bottom plane of the head surface, but the pistons are cupped.

the 3.4L is non interference..so are 7mgte, 1jz, and 2jz..wouldn't be surprised if most Toyota motors are.

Monte, looks like I may end up in your neck of the woods this summer. Got a verbal offer from a company to go work in Casper.
