If I do go up to 16.5" wheels these would be a sweet tire as well. Somewhat skinny for a 12.50.

I never said they weren't tough. In fact I'm pretty sure they will be my 1st choice if I have to get new wheels, at the moment I just see no reason to get new wheels. Mine do fine and beadlocks won't be all that necessary when stuffing a 12.50 on an 8" wheel.

 

It is very tiresome when you continue to mangle, mis-quote, exaggerate and otherwise try to re-write history.

No i have logic to that. Im saying to get in a wreck to be Total worthy, have to be a pretty big wreck..in which case..a steel bumper does more damage then good in that situation..

This is where we disagree. That statement applies only to newer vehicles.

The kelly bluebook says my truck is only worth $5,000. But if it cost anywhere near that amount to fix it, the Ins Co will total it.

It takes very little damage to reach the 5K mark these days.

Lets use your Dads truck for comparison. Same 5K in damage, will not be totaled. It isn't because of the amount a damage, its because of the cost to repair compared to the estimated (Kelly Bluebook) value/cost to replace.

In the case of older vehicles,in the Ins COs eyes, it is way to easy to chose the replace option and just pay out the 5K. If I can do anything to reduce the damage for a small accident (remember, 5K damage is easy to reach, and 5K is all they will pay) then that is what I want to do.

Right. I agree with that..

But thats only going to help you in minor accidents..if you have a major wreck..like someone slams into your rear and you get driven into someone infront at high speeds for whatever reason or T bone someone or whatever..the steel bumpers will most likely help bend your frame..resulting in an instant total call from the insurance company..

 

But in that case you are likely getting over $5000 worth of damage with the bumper or not...

either way..i still agree getting bumpers is better..im just saying..they also transfer energy straight to the frame..so they don't make the truck invincible.

 

What you say is true but that was not what Ben's reasoning for getting the bumper was. And its not mine either and isn't what prompted my comments. Only you have linked "totaling" to getting a bumper for protection.

Think of getting a bumper as preventative maintenance. Will it prevent an Ins. Co. from totaling it? No, not if the damage is greater than a certain threshold. But in circumstance that Mark mentioned, Yes, it may prevent it from being totaled. Especially when you consider the tendencies of the Ins COs.

 

Of course they don't. That is why I have a force field and carry laser weapons.
