do 42x14.50's count as skinny tires??

 

To a degree at least. Sidewall stiffness changes it up some and whatever surface your tire is deforming onto, like a round rock for example.

Kind of. haha. Can you get it in a 42x12.50? I consider a 37x12.50 a skinny because you can't get them any skinnier than that and they just look skinny. I'll bet a 42x14.50 looks skinny too! haha

No. If we consider a 33x10.5 a "skinny", then proportionately, for a 42 to a skinny it needs to be no wider than 13.4. That is the math talking (geez, im sounding like brady ) but to the eye a 42x14.5 may look a little thin when next to a small tire like a 35x12.5.

 

Who said a 33x10.50 was a skinny tire? The 255/85's are where skinny is!

 

OK, if 33.3x10 is the definition of skinny, a 42 would need to be 12.6 wide

 

Where do people get 33.3 from that? I see it all the time... It's 33.07 by the math and mine measured 33" even at 60 psi when brand new. Although I guess it doesn't take much to see an extra 1/4" when measuring.

 

And 12.25" by Ben's 235/85 skinny standard!

And 10.97" by my car's 155/85R13 skinny standard!

He was actually saying a 42x12.25 would be as skinny as a 235/85 is.

This makes me gigle every time I see it.

 

235*0.85*2/25.4+16 = 31.728"

31.728/(235/25.4) = 3.429 (ratio of height over width)

42/3.429 = 12.25" wide for a 42" tall tire.
