Lots of custom piping, and more importantly, fuel deliver and tuning. For uber power. Need very good tuning and that can be the tricky part.

A goooood setup for an NA setup to turbo..will be 4-8 grand

And mine never could cruise at 80 "nicely" too noisey, and twitchy steering. Before I did anything too it.

Igor is nicer but still..80 sucks. I don't even like doing 75 in my tacomas. To much wind/road noise

My dads tho..you can do 90 and not know it.

Yea right. I bet the exhaust sucks since you'll be at close to 3000-3100 rpm and yours is cut right behind the cab so it's boomy in the cab already.

    Your probably just deaf..:p haha

Ill be okay with any turbo fun car next..basically..haha

i was cruising at 75 just fine the other day

but in truth so what? Why would i ever want to go faster? Top speed clearly is at the bottom of my priority list. Its a truck, and trying to make it something else is just foolish. Its not a car, and it wont handle like one or have the speed of one, so why not build it up to do what its meant to do

this Im not building mine to go fast im building it to go anywhere

Edit: but on the note of being loud rolling down the free way have you ever driven a 12 valve cummins? When you do you will gain a new respect for how quite your Tacoma is.

2nd gens are running the exact setup as first gens. I'm pretty sure they sure the exact same ring gears and I haven't tried it, but I wouldn't be surprised if you and I could literally just swap 3rds.
I think this is all rumor. The idea comes from the fact that the 8.4's have an extra brace that the 8.0's don't have. This is also where the idea comes from that the 8.4's are stronger. I don't know why the 8.4's are called 8.4's because they run an 8" ring gear. It just has a different bolt pattern than the 8.0's or I'll be they would be swappable as well.

My take, is I think that Toyota got a bad or flawed batch of ring and pinions for the 2nd gen TRD Offroads. For a while they you always heard about a new TRD Offroad destroying another ring gear, but for the last year they seem to have quieted down a lot. So I kind of think that Toyota either did a silent upgrade to the flawed ring and pinion or ran out of the bad batch.

My reasoning is, almost all of them that blew up the factory ring and pinion have gone to after market gears and haven't killed them. Hell I went through 2 OEM ring gears in the first 3000 miles I owned my truck and I babied it back then. I beat the shit out of it now and 14,000 miles later on the 4.88's with no issues.

The other possibility is that having the same rear end as 1st gens, but being heavier, having more power and a lower geared tcase all add up to being able to put enough stress on the ring gear to blow it, but I don't completely buy this or all of the S/C'd guys would have destroyed their factory gears pretty quickly.

I thought about that last year for doing a LT build with a 4'' over kit since the diff and arms are a bit wider. Would be nice as they are much stronger then the 7.5

    I have..wasn't bad..coulda been a 24v though..was a 96 2500. Good truck.
