Do they even make the Sequoia anymore? It seems like they'd get rid of that first before the 4runner. Unless the Highlander is supposed to be the replacement SUV for the 4runner

Highlander has a hybrid model so it would replace the 4runner. I think its IFS and IFR tho..so not very offroady..more like a bloated Rav

yes they still make sequoias. those things are like driving a dinning room.

you have to think about it in a competion sence to they have to compete with other brands and not one other brand out there has a full frame small sized suv like the 4 Runner so they are droping it cuz they have the Highlander to make up for it. My mom has a highlander and ive been in bens 4 runner and as far as on road stuff goes she spankes him and has more power but like monty said not very off road friendly.

Hey now... lol The highlander is a nice vehicle and will agree with you on those points. But have you ridden in a 5th gen 4runner??? Those things are comfy as hell. They are pretty popular too. They made them bigger on the interior. Sequoia battles Armada, expedition, tahoe/yukon. 4runner battles pathfinder, explorer, pilot, Dakota, etc. there are a lot out there. Point is in the point for comfort basing off of the newer vehicle the toyota is te most comfortable but also the most expensive. That is where the hard point comes in.

Supposedly the Diesel going in the 2016 or 2017 Tundra is made by CAT.
These are both true, but as far as I have understood, the EPA doesn't rate the mileage of diesels so they don't get factored into the fleets mileage when trying to meet the newer cafe standards. If the companies switch all of their low mileage vehicles to diesels, then they can still sell them and meet the cafe standard which is going to a fleet average of 35.5 mpg for 2016. That means that half of your fleet has to be economy cars and hybrid cars. Only one of Toyota's non-hybrid cars meets that right now and even then that is only highway... The Yaris is rated at 30 city / 37 highway... The Hybrid Highlander doesn't even meet this with a rating of 27 city / 28 highway which means none of the hybrid trucks will likely meet it either unless there is a big jump in Hybrid technology.

Yes, but my point was how much longer before Toyota has to choose between making the Tacoma a diesel, putting a little hybrid slow hybrid in it that get close to 30mph or just dropping it from the fleet like it is doing with the 4runner and FJC.

Unless the government changes up the CAFE standards the fleet average is going to have to be over 50 mpg by 2025... It's just a matter of time.

So the plus side to the whole gas cap fiasco was that I got to drive my wife's car to work instead of my beater:D It's way nicer to drive, especially when getting on the freeway! I'm pretty sure that little car could take my Tacoma in a race and it's the little baby Mazda 3. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to have the S/C'd motor in there!

Each vehicle has to meet specific requirements based on their size on top of the fleet mileage though...

By 2025 mid-size trucks have to be making 37 mpg and full size trucks making 23 mpg. Though I don't know how well that must be followed because it says that it is supposed to be 24 and 18 right now and only the little 4cyl 2wd 5lugger Tacomas are rated at that and that's freeway...

yeah and of the pathfinder explorer and pilot those are all unibody rigs which means no need for toyota to change the 4 runner when they already have the highlander sucks but it's true jeep only has one with a frame anymore:D.

and by full size you mean only the half ton full sized trucks.

So what is Toyota's problem? The Tundra is only at 17 Hwy? Unless you get a little 2wd with the 4.0 and that is at 20.

Yes half tons (I couldn't find any specs for trucks bigger than halfton on their sites), and other than Chevy, you have to have a V6 2wd to hit the 23 mpg mark. All of Dodge's and Ford's V8's were listed at 19-21 mpg.

Chevy's 5.3L Ecotech V8 has pretty good MPG across the board though. About 22 highway for the 4 door standard bed 4wd.

Toyota wanted a truck that was a monster at pulling for it's class. it out pulls all other half tons but pays for it at the pump. where as GM gets it's great mpgs buy killing cylinders on an already small V8. my boss's 07 drops to a 4 cyl on the flats and down hill to get that 22mpgs but put a moderate load behind him and that 22 drop to 14-17 depending on the terrain.

Uh... just keep swimming! How's that for advice?;)

I got nothing. I didn't exactly have to apply for any of the jobs I've had or at least not in the traditional manner...

    Getting closer though!

Be VERY careful when doing applications. Spelling for instance is a make or break a lot of times.

    its the tiniest details.
