    Mountains you say, we have a few of those. We got to 13K twice this weekend and prolly did 20K of vert in the dirt.

    I always feel like my motor is adequate until I go to the dunes. You could have 1000 hp and it wouldn't be enough. :D

    You ain't a kidding! I've never felt so under powered... I had 3 mall crawlers show me up on Thunder Mountain because I just didn't have the power. The 3 of them were fullsize rigs with what were probably spacer lifts, but 2 of them were diesels and the other was likely one of Chevy's larger gasoline V8's. They couldn't take the whoops at the bottom so they would just kind of baby into them and then stand on it and had no problem making it to the top. I would blast though those whoops at about 50 mph with it pinned the entire time and would just run out of go... I even tried it in 4Lo and it still dogged out about 2/3 of the way up...

    I could crest the peaks of all the other dunes there, but I could work my way up the other side and get a run at it. Thunder Mountain doesn't have a neighboring dune. You start at the sage brush line and you are already facing slightly uphill...

    I was able to almost redline 5th gear in 4Lo going into the hill climb and it still wasn't enough. In 4Hi I never left 2nd gear though. It's just a steep fucking hill.

    I looked into paddle tires the other day for kicks, but that is a lot of money for something I can only use once in a while and I don't know how well 4" paddles would do in the whoops... haha Plus it would suck to have to pack them up there and swap them around.

    Paddles eat horsepower. If you had 500+ ponies, then a widely spaced paddle would do ok. At our power levels....not a good idea.

    Oh? I figured it would help me out. I felt like my issue with the hill climbs was that my KM2's would start digging and costing me my speed. If I had paddles on the rear to keep me moving forward I figured I would do better.

    See....paddle tires dig even more, unless you have the power to float on just the tips of the paddle. You would be sitting on your diff in five feet with paddles. Two options, lose weight, or increase hp.
