My car does amazing on the icy roads. Outperforms my Tacoma easy even when I had snow tires on it. But that is an advantage of front wheel drive really.

I would take my taco in a collision over the Hyundai but no car is going to fair very well in a head on against a truck.

Most newer vehicles to include my 99 have pretty good crash ratings though. The government regulates that so well that most vehicles are about on par with each other unless you are talking a really fancy vehicle like a lamborghini or ferrari.

I had an Army issued Ford Taurus with a roll cage once. We used them in the field for "taliban caravans" for training. They got crashed...a lot...and it surprised me how damn tough they were. Why not get a reasonably priced car and cage it?

I wasn't talking about you.. not yet atleast

yeah the older car took less damage to the frame but the driver and passengers inside it took more. the idea is for the car to absorb the impact so the driver doesn't have to. the way I see it why should I worry about driving around a "newer" beer can when everyone else does.

have you ever been in a head on collision? cuz I have I was doing 40 in a 35 and a drunk drive was doing 35 coming at me on a one way. (I was in my old truck RCTOY)

i was goofing around playing chicken with the guy and by the time i realized he wasn't stopping it was to late i had time to make the truck nose dive and that was about it. we hit so hard i ripped the head off the block of his car and my stinger left a dent in the roof of his car as it stopped me from going onto my lid over the top of him and since we didn't hit 100% head on the ass end of my truck landed in the lane to the right of me. a witness said the drove under my truck. my passenger and i took 0 ingery from it. The other guy had a big ass bruise across his chest from the seat belt and the air bag rashed his face.. i drove my truck home that night.

Don't get me wrong new cars are safe because they crumple up and absorb the impact. So in my opinion id say pray you don't get into a wreck at all but if it's going to happen hit a really new car and be in something bigger.

like i would much rather get into a wreck with my dodge than my taco. weight plays a big factor.

that's why i said pray you don't get hit at all but if it's going to happen be in something bigger like vehicle wise smaller cars do worse in wrecks like i said above weight factor is a big deal. you can pick what car you are in incase something happens.

Most suvs are still on truck frames. its harder to have impact absorbing with full framed vehicles. cars will always do better than trucks and suvs for that reason. i wonder how they have done with the crossovers.

edit: so basically the less impact the car takes the more impact you take and visa versa. that's what crash test ratings are all about. I say you stop worrying so much about it and just be safe when it get nasty out.

My wifes highlander gets 23. Has the 3.5l in it. But, if looking to still hit trails, 4runner yes. Or follow after Geoff and get a xterra
