I hope so, I need some fishing and camping time desperately!

 

In about 30 hours, we got about 8 inches fresh snow. You can shove those thoughts of spring in a dark corner until the snow is done.

 

it's been above 40 all weekend with rain. hope the high mountains are still getting snow though. going to check out the low lands with a few off road clubs this coming weekend.

 

yeah Im officially done with winter/snow/ice...we slid about 100' down our icy drive (zero control) the other day, hit a small tree on the bank and bent up the bumper on the newer ford truck...had to put chain on just to get down to the main dirt road which was also covered in ice...

 

wasnt really a bad dent but it was unnerving to have no control on a 5000+lb vehicle and it picking up speed.

 

Good tires would have made the world of difference. Just because they are new doesn't mean they are good.

tires are just fine...when the road is a sheet of ice and on hill nothing is going to stop it...like I said tires has nothing to do with it in MY situation.

 

exactly...studded tires only help a little they arent going to help when the whole road is compacted snow turned to ice and the whole road is covered. I had to throw out some kitty litter just to be able to walk on it to get to the tires to put a chain on.

 

Not sure if it would have helped, but on RWD, you can use compression braking to put a little more slowing power in the rear to help drag you back a bit. If you had no traction on anything, then it obviously wouldn't help. When I was out with my wife, I taught her about compression braking with automatic transmission for shitty conditions.

Also, for the sake of argument, on the sheet of ice that is your driveway, you could put slicks on, then wrap them in chains and get enough traction to control the descent.

So I think I figured out what bumper I want to get for my truck when I have money for it. Thinking Road Armor 44075B. I've also been trying to figure out a good winch to get for it too, not that I expect to use it a lot, but still can be good to have. I've been contemplating between 12k and 15k. I am guessing the truck empty is somewhere about 6000 lbs, but there is a always the chance of having a trailer loaded up too (thinking to get 10-12k flatbed about 18 ft long). In the deep snow, so far my truck is not awesome like a Tacoma, even with weight in the back.

I like the full grill/headlight protectors on the bumper, which I know add to the cost (like about doubling it), that way I have something to grab onto when walking around the front of the truck in my back acreage.

 

tell me youre joking. Road Armor bumpers are literally the biggest and most obnoxious bumpers you can buy. Adios approach angle. Of all the awesome smaller fab shops that make taco bumpers you want that one? Wat

 

Screw all your snow, the roof over the local sears/bowling alley caved in the other day and destroyed the building. We had a shit ton of snow...and now its raining in Jackson...bring on the floods!

Yall see the news about flooded 86 between poky and twin? Looked like a damn river.

 

I wish I still had a Tacoma. I got hit and rolled back in November which totaled my second gen. Since then, I got a 2006 dodge ram 1500 that came with about a 4 inch lift. For the road armor I liked the lines it had better than the others I saw. Also, while I'm not afraid to take this truck off-road, I don't think I could keep up with a Tacoma. I have a 4 door with 6.5 ft bed, so it is a long truck and wider than Tacomas too.

 

The 3 week cold snap was certainly not the most fun. Now we are getting this slushy shit snow. You aren't missing much up north

Well I drove away from there Monday morning and I'm back to NE Oregon for work. Not going to be able to melt that for a bit.
