Bin lurking a little as well. Planning a scouting run out to the Alvord desert and Steens mountain in eastern Oregon on Saturday. Will be a long day with an early start. If anyone is interested in going just let me know.

You going to build it all yourself? That sounds like fun.

We'll be in UT from 4/6-4/13 but Moab specifically 4/6-4/9 or 4/10. Dubs game is Tuesday night, so will likely want to get ourselves checked into a hotel and showered. Not sure how long of a drive from Moab to SLC.

Definitely not opposed to it, but already booked a campsite that is basically just a paved parking lot as far as I can tell. Trying to get my better half on board for at least ONE night of dispersed camping though. Happy to meet up at the trails regardless of sleeping arrangements.

Edit: that of course is based on the assumption you and Kirsten have 0 desire to stay in a paved parking lot

No worries either way, but would be awesome if you guys can make it (even if it were just Sat and Sun). Also I've got a better shot of a dispersed night if you guys have already scouted a location lol

It might be, I can’t find any resources on its current status. I’ll let you know.

My goal is to get a feel for the area and scout some base camps for some trips with the family. If we get lucky, then do run out on the lake bed.

Would have liked the company. Hopefully it will work out next time.

I’m interested in a run down to Moab and some trail time. If you would have me. Got to check the dates with the family and work.

My dad has a plasma table and my buddy is professional welder so it should go pretty smoothly. The only tricky part is figuring out how I want to mount the sliders and the bed rack.

Went out to the Alvord Desert yesterday. It’s a pretty cool place. As far as could tell just the north end still has surface water. It was pretty windy and there was a lot of alkaline dust in the air. It tasted like chalk. It was long drive. 450 in total for the day. If anyone is planning to make the trip, I would recommend the northern loop. It was 50 miles shorter that the southern one. The southern route has at least one spot to dry camp on the way there, 160 miles or so along the route.

On the way back we explored a trail of 95 that led to pretty cool camp spot and a great sunset. It’s just too bad, that cellphones can’t capture a sunset worth a damn.
