Contemplating on taking a job at Tamarack Resort. Main reason for leaving Colorado is the cost of housing around here. There's nothing below 300k and HOAs are everywhere here. Am I going to run into the same thing in that area? I don't mind a 45 minute commute if it means I have my own piece of land and a house. Are you guys seeing the population boom like Colorado has in recent years?

Cascade is about as far south I'd want to go, I think. As long as it's within 45 minutes maybe an hour for the right place I'd be alright with it.

Had no clue Idaho was growing that quickly!

Idaho has the highest growth percentage wise. In terms of total numbers though is nowhere near the top since the overall population of Idaho is so low.

I'm from California and I thought up here in the panhandle there would be barely any people...I was wrong. I love it here in Idaho but if you are trying to get away from people or live where you won't see a lot of people there are other states that would offer this...I live close to Canada and the highway here has constant cars. I love Idaho for the freedom and lack of gun restrictions/laws big game, etc. You can travel for an hour in any direction and see nobody if that's what you want. Housing is cheap in Idaho but they don't pay you a lot of money for working here (i'm a teacher). It's all relative though. Live in an expensive place (California, Colorado) and most likely get paid more money...Montana was my other option of relocating but Idaho is closer to CA for me to see my folks.

When I drove through Boise I was driving with a bunch of traffic side by side. Up in North Idaho you got people in front or behind you (2 lane roads)

Yeah it blows my mind how busy hwy 95 is. Up here 90% of the cars are heading south to CDA/Spokane or Sandpoint.
Colorado was on the radar about 6 years ago when prices were still low...my wife is from CO Springs but we didn’t want to move to Colorado because of the housing prices, and all the people. We considered AK for a while (in laws live there) but Idaho is a good mix of 4 seasons and as close to AK as you can get while not living in AK. I love Idaho :oldglory:

Good for sellers, but sucks for home buyers...you don’t want to know what my property taxes were in San Diego

Im not dead set on Idaho, it just happened to be a place where a lift mechanic position was open. MT, WY and AK are other possibilities. I should try and find another trade that doesn't top out so quickly salary wise. Ski resorts don't pay for shit lol

I've been there twice. It definitely is a beautiful state, better than CO in my opinion.... I mean Colorado is the best EVERYONE should keep moving there! :rasta:

I was literally in your exact shoes one year ago before we decided to move to ID...I laid out the map and had ID, WY, MT, AK, WA, and OR on our radar. WA and OR quickly fell off the list because I knew those states weren't going to work for me...WY was very intriguing to me but I found out that about 1/2 the land in WY is privately owned and not public so no thank you WY. MT was the other choice of moving but ID offered me a job first. I love AK but my inlaws live in interior AK so that's where we would move to and I wasn't stoked on the winters in interior AK so much. Anchorage or Kenai is rad...not too cold and lots and lots to explore. I was worried about feeling "stuck" if we moved to AK. Here in Idaho if you want to go visit the pot heads back in CO you for sure can...you wanna surf? go to WA/OR/CA, Moab, mountains, desert, all that stuff is doable within 2 day drive or less. If you ever come up to north Idaho I would love to show you around. Schweitzer mountain resort is out of Sandpoint and is a super fun mountain if you are into the white fluffly powder stuff in winter.

Closer you get to Couer Da lene the more the price of homes is. Renting is another option. Prices/land taxes went up in my county last year to "catch up" to the average. My 8.83 acres went up $21,000 in tax value last year! It is a beautiful place to live, you just have to give up some things if you live outside of the big city. Such as a quick trip to Lowes or Home Depot...if you go for plumbing repair stuff you better get 2 of whatever you are trying to fix otherwise you lose 2 more hours of driving just to get the right thing or replace whatever didnt work...;)Overall though We are pretty happy living here...
