I’m a South Dakota boy through and through but I’ve traveled or lived all over the western US and I’ve always had it in the back of my mind whether I should buy land in the Black Hills or in ID. Waited a few too many years and now it’s all doubled and tripled in price haha. But we shall see, if enough Californians leave maybe I can buy one of their “homestead” plots for a good price when they realize they’re in over their head :D

That’s how it’s getting here. Not nearly as bad as y’all have it, but the quiet town my folks live in I used to leave my keys in the ignition with the window down… now I go to the store and get mean mugged by face tatted homies, crime is through the roof, people shooting out windows and harassing women at the store. I’m looking for a place to get my family out of all that.

I’m also looking for a smaller quieter town. Would like some land, so my neighbors are not so close. What you find it let me know.

what area of South Dakota are you in? I my need to take it off my list.

I’m currently easy river while the wife finishes up school. Aberdeen is beyond repair in my mind. Watertown has nice land just outside of it. I knew good farmers and ranchers nearby.

We’re looking at land West river in the Black Hills area (but it’s just as expensive as the land we’ve been looking at near Moscow area).

Kicking ourselves for not buying a few years back ha.

I know that should have bought that land a couple years feeling. Even if I had to sell it later, my return would have been 25-30% greater. Good luck in your search.

We have been eyeing the Moscow-Troy area since I picked my truck up there last year. I think with it being a college town it's just going to continue to boom.
My husband likes the idea of Orofino too, but that's a little too BFE for me.

Yeah I don’t think I could ever live in Orofino, different folks in that area.

I saw a nice homestead for sale in Orofino. Wasn't in the position to make that decision yet. Right now looking at land both outside Moscow area (roughly) and outside Hermosa, SD (again, roughly) and comparing pros and cons (and prices). Wherever we end up, hopefully have a steel structure up in 2-3 years and interior build out and place for the folks to move into in 5 (-10 max). I'm my folk's retirement plan, so trying to get a move on haha.

Orofino is nice but a lot of properties are steep on a hill.

Hi everyone. The wife and I moved to Boise area. We are both nurses and love it here so far. We both grew up in Colorado and have lived in Wyoming for the last 10years so it’s refreshing to see some snow and cold. It was shaping up to be a very dry winter in those states. I’ve got a 2006 DCSB.

If you are ever missing the snow, there is plenty of it about 1.5 hours to the north!
