Well finally moved and settled in Boise. How active is this group with trail runs or getting out?

Also where is best place to take our trucks locally to get worked on? I think My power steering and or needle bearing/ front diff is having issues. I already Replaced and upgraded needle bearing ECGS years ago but it’s now giving same vibes and doesn’t go away in 4hi. It’s also super sluggish turning and makes whining noise?

This is my truck if you see me out and about say hi.

    Welcome!

Not too active in terms of get togethers/trips.

Also can't help on a place to have things worked on too much. I've used Christian Brothers a few times and it was always a good experience. Going to try a small shop here in Nampa soon and see how that goes.

With the warming temps, it's time to leave the desert areas and head to the mountains. If you haven't been to Atlanta, it's a pretty good weekend trip to get a feel for what is just in our backyard.

No worries just checking to see if this is better over here than Washington was. I help run and run a few groups from there and hope to meet some likeminded people here as well. Not sure if anyone is in rigs and adventures on Facebook? But my other group is also looking to add people and build our network into Idaho.

I also Heard Christian brother was good. Are any of the Toyota dealerships worth a crap?

we plan on doing steens, lost river, Atlanta and all the tribs of the Boise River soon as well as hells canyon etc so many good areas out here. My wife also has a lifted runner we take out so we are always exploring and camp almost every weekend or every other if we can. Would love to join some Locals on trips if you don’t mind as I may retire here soon.

I use edmark Toyota for alignments, but that's about it. Sure it's a bit pricier but had decent luck there.

There's lots of places here, a lot of them you won't find online, which is a good thing. Some places become over run when the Internet finds out about it.

Yeah I aim to keep the good places not known as well. People can explore and find them just like us. I’ll check out edmarkans see what they say and quote the probably take it to Christian bros. Thanks man.

Look up @backcountry4wd on IG that’s the largest 4x4 group here in the valley. We’ve got an overnight trip out to deadwood this weekend open to the public.

Too bad my daily commute is 65(70) and not 55(60).

    Almost 25mpg? Not too shabby.

Yeah, Lewiston smelled the same in 2011 as it did in 1980. Like bad sauerkraut... I was impressed with how much shorter the drive between Lewiston and Coeur d'Alene had become in that time.
I recently received a copy of Ralph Space's History of the Lolo Trail (printed in Lewiston in 1974), an amazing read, on my reference shelves.

I have spent many hours on 95 and it's much better. Was through there a few weeks ago and looks like they are rerouting the highway between Moscow and where the 4 lanes start. Should make it even better when they finish.

If you haven't done it, drive the lolo especially if you've read undaunted courage. Amazing country.

We did that in 1979 and 1980, snorkel counting transects from the bottom end of Cayuse Creek (camped at the airstrip) and at the Cayuse Junction end. !979, surveyed Indian Post Office Lakes (bathymetry, sonar counts, water chemistry, geology, flora and fauna). The 1980 August snorkel counts ended as usual with Cayuse Creek, camped on the Lolo Motorway, and the aged old FS Dodge SNB ran out of liquid coolant up there, so after stuffing what little ice and water was left in the coolers in the radiator, it was a slow trip, stopping as it overheated to cool down. When we pulled in to Powell Ranger Station, we said, "Fill 'er up with water and check the gas." US12 is a twisty road (last highway built in the state, completed 1924), and at the time was the main route for 105,000 lb. grain trucks hauling from eastern MT to the Port of Lewiston. They'd be flyin' and running others off the road. So many grain trucks would wreck on US12 (back end of the long day's round trip, ice, snow, whatever) you couldn't plan on driving Lolo Pass, but plan on stopping somewhere with sleeping bag to wait things out. Unfortunately, the USFS did consolidate many ranger districts and forests (and reduce maintenance), so it's the Clearwater-Nez Perce National Forest, with a single Forest Fish Biologist (who was not happy with that situation when I met him in 2012 at The Resort). My mentor was forced out of his Clearwater NF Fish Biologist position, and since retired to Moscow, serving as a director with Friends of the Clearwater, foc.org. He may still have the steelhead drift boat that he got when he was turning 40, but he'd be 85 now. Wow, time's fun when you're having flies, as the frog said, or was that a fly fisherman?
