Ian, have you had those on your truck?

 

Ian's is a 97 Mike..came with 15s..so can't say if they would work with yours..

 

I havent actually. I found them locally so i snatch them up cause i knew i was going back to 15". They're nice looking steelies, best ive seen. I never liked the round holes on the wheelers steelies.

Stock toyota 1st gen alloys are stamped 15 mm. This is an offset number. If you do the math, this translates to 4.5625 of bs on a 7" wide rim. If the stock alloys were 8" wide, the same offset would translate to over 5" of bs.

 

Aren't the alloys a 7'' rim tho?

they are the Wheelers type B with 4'' BS 15x8.

I want Wagon wheels tho.

 

I ask because I would love to have 15x8 D windowed steelies that will fit my calipers. I've loooked hi and low for a set. I would buy those in a second if I could confirm that will fit my calipers.

 

im not really sure what makes the type B's Wheelers fit your years?? is it the BS?? or a part of the design as well?

might have to go look at my spare lol

And yes your calipers are larger then ours.

 

I can throw one on to confirm but the guy that i bought them off of had the exact same white 96 tacoma. Do we have the same calipers?

 

No worries man, im not in a major hurry to get new rims. Last thing i need is for my tires to stick out another .25'' lol

No, ours are smaller. 98-04s have larger ones hence the 16'' stock rim.

My buddy has a 97 and his calipers appear to be identical to mine. He also has d windowed steelies. They look just like Ians. His wheels fit fine over my calipers....

 

Actually thats incorrect. I work in auto parts and just looked up the part numbers for the calipers and they are the same for all those years.

Check it for your self and go to rock auto

 

Also the 98-00 have the same 5 star stock rim as us

That would be an interesting experiment, if you don't mind. Its only the fronts that matter of course and you do need to tighten them down and spin them. the clearance issues is on the face of the caliper. If the rim rubs, it will be the stamped area of the D window that does it. Hope that makes sense.

Speaking of wheels...do any of you guys know if once you powder coat wheels if you need to get them rebalance or anything?

My polished aluminum ones got eaten bad by the shit we put on streets so looks like I might be buying a new set for summer but I though of powedercoating these eventually.

Any opinions?

 

meh, just rattle can em man. Mine turned out great when i did that..cost like 1/8 or less then powder coating would.
