    That kit is a UV, polarizing and florescent combo
    The UV filter (clear) will make the greens and blues of landscapes seem brighter and more vibrant
    The polarizing filter (gray) will take the glare off of water, snow, glass/windows. If you're a fisherman and have ever used polarized sunglasses you know the benefits.
    The fluorescent filter (pink) will help correct indoor shots - ever notice how people look ill in some pictures because of bad lighting? Your camera should have white balance settings that do the same thing.

    I have always had a UV and polarizing filter. Mostly for protection but also because I take mostly outdoor shots and the polarizing filter makes a huge difference!

    Spend enough time where I do - namely Yellowstone - and you will be glad to have a filter on the lenses. The steam from the geysers, etc is acidic and it will etch the glass. I'll try to get a pic of one of my old filters. If you're not a fan of filters now you will be once you see what protection they can provide.

    If you don't shoot in Raw, you are allowing the in-camera software do your editing for you. Personally, I've found that leaves a lot to be desired. However, if all you will be doing is displaying your work on a computer monitor, it doesn't matter and the jpeg format is fine. :)

    RAW = photography for dummies. As long as you can get the camera settings relatively close to correct and the subject is in focus you can fix anything and everything in RAW.

    I once shot a whole day with my white balance being set to tungsten ( I didn't know it at the time) :eek::mad: When I got home I was in near panic...thankfully I was shooting RAW so I was able to fix everything and make it look normal

    You do need a program - like photoshop - that can read the RAW files. I think the software that Canon ships with the cameras can read them as well

    according to my book you can expect to get the following on a 4gb card (assuming the file sizes are the same for the t2i since they are both 18mp)
    large/medium/small (or roughly 18mp/14mp/10mp)
    RAW +jpeg fine = 122/137/143
    RAW = 156/231/347
    A RAW file on my camera averages 20mb, Jpeg is 3mb
    I had a 2gb, 2 -4 gb and an 8gb card for my Sony and I just ordered a 16gb so I now have a total of 34gb of memory, one 4gb card will stay formatted for the Sony for now.

    Here you go Mike...see all of those little specks on the filter glass? That's not dust, that is water droplets from the geysers that etched the surface.

    If you're shooting RAW + JPEG then yes. Just JPEG you could get over 2000 on a 16gb card. Plus you have a laptop so you can clear out your cards each night...I can't! I have to be able to survive a 2 or 3 day trip without a computer.

    I feel very fortunate to have been able to develop my photography skills when slide film was still mainstream. Slide film leaves very little margin for errors in making a good exposure. It taught me to get it right the first time or else that particular moment was gone forever.

    Now, if I under or over expose on a digital camera, at least it is possible to recover from that a bit if I shoot in raw.

    I would say its the opposite. Jpeg = photography for dummies.

    Shooting raw takes nothing away from the photographers skills. If you have poor skills or poor habits, shooting raw will not improve your photographs. But if you have good skills and discipline, having a raw file to work with will be so rewarding.

    The digital camera has fundamentally changed the photography playing field. You limit yourself by not shooing in raw. There are so many missed opportunities if you shoot only in jpeg.

    Use the $20 you were going to spend on filter for a 2nd memory card. In fact, I believe (here is one of those pesky opinions Lisa) that having multiple, smaller cards is better than having a few big cards. I know of too many instances of loss of data on cards. I would much prefer to have 4-4gb cards over a single 16gb card. Mine are all 2 and 4 gb cards.

    Yup. Raw files are to the digital camera as negatives were to film cameras.
