Idaho BS thread in the PNW

So I had my cb on when I went into town to see if I could pick up any traffic. I think I kind of did at one point. I need to play with the squelch control some. One thing I did notice is that when I press on my brake pedal, my cb will squeal for a second or two everytime I press the pedal...

 

Channel 11 is super popular here, more so than 19 even. If you are near the hwy you should be able scan the channels under 25 and find SOMETHING. You tuned the antenna right? As far as the brake thing...I dunno. Did you tap into a light fuse or something?

The cb is grounded to the same ground as the inverter uses under the console. The antenna is grounded to the frame, it's a shitty setup though, cuz it is a temporary setup.

I just sat on channel 19 for the most part, I thought I might pick something up since I was only a mile or 2 from I-15.

 

the inverter will cause a TON of interference... it's taking a DC current and making it an AC current. you're getting induction from the inverter.

 

hmm... You think it still would even with the inverter off? I guess I will have to go move my ground if I can get to it now. haha

Oh and do the coax connections have to be completely tight? I left the right angle connector just loose enough that it can spin around.

 

So I should take both the positive and negative wires on the cb to the battery? The positive is connected directly to the battery.

I went and played with the squelch button, now that i know how to use it, and I actually picked up some traffic on channel 21. I could almost understand what they were saying but not quite... Although if that traffic was coming from the freeway that is over 10 miles away. If that's the case I think I should be good to go, except for the squeal from the brake pedal...

 

I read an article on here that said to ground the mount rather than the antenna so I just tried that and the brake squeal is mostly gone There is still a noise for a quarter of a second when I hit the brakes, but it's much better than the really loud squeal I had before.

I really doubt the DMV would let you have that plate, but it would be epic. I would love to have that here in Malad during deer hunting season. We get tons and tons of Cali and Utah hunters here...

My coax runs out through the floor in the back seat. I have my antenna mounted at the back of the bed.

My coax is 12 ft long and there is no coiling as it is almost the perfect length. Yeah I need to tune the antenna, but I don't have an SWR tuner and don't really want to spend the money on something I will only use once or twice...

 

You must have never been to the North West US before. haha

 

I felt the same way when I saw that haha. I have heard him called that before even and forgot.
