Thanks Ben, you just reminded me that I was going to ask this on here a few days ago. So what all will I need to put in my new diffs, besides tools and beer of course I've got new diff fluid and some brake cleaner to clean out the old diff fluid and shit in there. I don't actually know if the new diffs will come with gaskets... and I will just re-use the old crush washers and save my new ones for a 500 mile diff fluid change.

 

Toyota uses FIPK for sealing stuff, you can pick up a tube for around $10 from the parts store. I use this canned magic called "the right stuff" that hasn't ever failed me. It is a little more costly than FIPK or silicone, but it is worth it 50k from now. Don't just goober it on the outside, pull the third, clean the old stuff off and it will last. Sometimes the leak is coming from the pinion seal and that is a little harder to change.

 

The rear diff is really easy to pull. Didn't even take Brant and I 30 minutes to do and I could probably have done it by myself just as fast (2 guys doesn't really make it any faster). It just some nuts and bolts and plugs.

 

Ladies and gentlemen and Mark, I will soon be constructing my front bumper after the Brute force hybrid design along with my HC rear also in the hybrid Bruteforce design with a custom swing away tire gate since I recently (yesterday) destroyed my tailgate wheeling. Prepare for the awesomeness!

Hold on amigo! We are still doing cardboard work right now but we got a plasma cutter, and bender and everything else needed! I am purchasing the steel currently and then its on! hopefully it works the first time, Id hate to have to buy the steel fuck up and then buy the bumper if it doesnt work haha!

FWIW,I got my kit at Wheelers Offroad. It looks like I might have paid a couple of extra $$ but it was for piece of mind.

Wheelers adds 2 additional "short" sleeves to their kits, each extra sleeve has a slightly different ID because some of our trucks require it. You only use 1 the 3 but only 1 of the 3 will fit correctly.

Where is the leak on your diff? Is it coming from where the drive shaft comes in?

Hmm... 2 of the 3 mounts for the skid are studs, though the studs may thread in. The 3rd is a bolt. If it is from one of these 3 points, there are no "seals" involved and might be a simple fix with a dab of RTV.

Have you taken the skid back off to see where it is actually coming from?

 

After seeing this ^^^ picture, it is obvious this VVV statement is incorrect.

Where ever that stain is coming from, it is unrelated to the skid or the actuator. In fact, that stain doesn'tlook fresh at all. If it was dripping onto the street today, it would still be shiny on there. Something isn't adding up.

 

You need to pinpoint the source. Its definately not the skid or the actuator. There is a seal right there but that would not explain why it is coming down from above. Maybe jiffylube put too much fluid in it? Is it coming out of the diff breather?

 

Do this, pulling the rear diff should be easy and just use the FIPG from Toyota. It works amazing dude, i used it on my supra and its TOUGH stuff.

Tho i do know you don't have access to a ton of tools and such so maybe taking it in to have them do it wouldn't be bad..
