finding a "road" on google earth doesn't always result in finding a road in real life. trust me, been there, done that.

I'm interested in how the physics works out for the "Factory" Tundra to have pulled that space craft. haha. I saw your post Ben about that article in the Funny pics thread and the math was all sorts of screwed up in it, but even correcting the math the Tundra was still short well over 250,000 lbs of pull. I don't have any experience with pushing a motor to its extreme limits pulling but I would think a rod would break or it would blow a hole through the block when getting pushed to it's limits, that or you would twist an axle or snap a ring gear and pinion or strip your lug nuts or even just spins you tires. haha

I have faith that the truck truly pulled it. you would be surprised to see how strong stuff really it, what causes most failures is when stuff gets jarred or hit really hard. that kinetic energy is a B****!

for example, the average tensile strength of a grade 5 1/2" course thread bolt is roughly 19k lbs. put 4 of them on something, and you can pick up vertically roughly 76000 lbs.

and i guarantee he wasn't in 4 high...

Yeah I didn't watch the video but being in 4Lo would increase his drawpull quite a lot. I did the math for my tacoma and adding a 4.7 tacobox into the mix would increase my draw pull from about 10,000 lbs to almost 50,000 lbs.

Once he got it moving momentum would help a ton, but I have seen 6 lug 1/2 tons spin the lug nuts off trying to haul loads that only a full ton should be hauling and in this case something much bigger should be hauling.

Badlands front bumper with a Smittybilt 8K winch, synthetic winch line. Demello sliders and bedbar. Custom rear bumper. Custom skid plates. Flex-a-lite tranny cooler with fan mounted in bed. Bilstein 5100's with SAW coils, AllPro UCAs, NW offroad rear springs (garbage), 4.88s and front and rear lockrights. Lots of custom sheetmetal work.
The way they had the Shuttle on those dolly's the Tundra was only pulling 30,000 pounds of rolling mass. I would hook my Tundra up to that no problem. I have pulled loaded 18 wheelers on flat ground to get them going when ice has covered our loading area. We load trucks out to 80,000 lbs. That's basically what it was doing.

90's F150. Couldn't tell you about the abuse though. I imagine lots since he was warned about hauling that much and chose to do it anyway. haha

Really?! I would think A-trac would possibly make it hard since it is breaking the tires, plus unless the A-Trac on the Tundra is significantly more responsive than it is on the Tacoma there would have been a lot of tire spinning. A-Trac still lets you spin the tires pretty good, and on pavement with full Trac engaged I can break a tire free for a bit before it engages.

So like I said I haven't seen the video of it yet (except about 20 secs of it, (someone had filmed their TV! it was shitty quality so I didn't bother), but I can't imagine the Tundra would have looks as impressive to people if it was chirping the tires a lot the entire trip.

The way he brought up A-Trac kind of seemed like it was an opportunity to brag it up, like it was the only thing he could thing of to say why a Tundra could do it and not any vehicle with 400+ ftlb of torque. haha.

In that video it seemed to get going pretty easily though and it didn't look like it chirped a tire so I don't think A-Trac did anything to help it tow that. haha

Anyone know the torque spec for the two 17mm caliper bolts?

Are you trying to :stirthepot:? haha. I'll keep playing:D

You have to do more than just chirp a tire for A-Trac to engage haha. A-Trac won't engage until it sensing a tire is spinning and in my experience the difference in wheel speed between two tires is more than enough for a tire to not just chirp but flat out spin before it detects it.

As much as I like to praise Toyota:D I can't believe everything. haha That and A-Trac sucks. Lockers > A-Trac!!!

I just torqued them until they felt tight:notsure:

Edit: Apparently it is 90 ftlbs on 2nd gens, so it might be in that neighborhood on 1st gens.
    Edit: 91 ftlbs on a 97-98 4 runner.
Edit: Also 90 ftlbs for a 1st gen pre-runner so I would say 90 ft lbs.
