I like the WIC system welfare should go that route or at the very least be capped at like $100 per month per family. Unemployment needs to go to like 2 months only and you can only use it like twice in your life.

The pot thing will be interesting. I like the idea of taxing it and such, I don't really have a problem with it but they should make it so that if they smell pot in the car you are getting searched no ifs ands or buts. In Oregon they are having problems with drug dealers getting the medical cards and having some pot in the car and now the cop has a hard time finding the $10,000 worth of coke or meth in the trunk.

One of my sergeants is an Idaho State Trooper and they get calls from Oregon about suspicious cars coming from Oregon into Idaho but Oregon can't do anything because they have a card. In Idaho if a cop even suspects there is pot in a car you are getting searched no matter what. He said they have found lots of hard drugs that way and 100's of pounds of pot.

I'm just gonna copy and paste what I wrote up for 4 other interested parties... Waiting on two guys who are working up north for there week back down, 2 other guys younger fella's who want the truck badly but on a payment plan which I'm not to interested in, then I got a # of people wanting parts etc if I end up parting her out, which I'd rather not. Rather get my $1500, cut my losses and buy winter tires for my Dodge Diesel ASAP.
The followings pretty extensive - cover's truck, engines, history of everything... Rather have people interested know as much as possible, so they can decide before they make a trip out and weed out buyers who are just kicking tires.

The hybrid 20R/22R motor is rebuilt, though never run. The block was originally finished in Ford Blue (have photo's from when I pulled the hybrid), I repainted it matte black as well as the L45 original manual trans + case (kept inside heated garage whole time). The original 81' 22R motor is plugged n' covered and sitting secured in the bed of the truck.
I purchased the '81 Toyota with the original 22R motor/trans/t-case already pulled, sitting in the box. The guy I bought this from out in Hinton had it sitting in his backyard for 4-5 yr's. He told me he bought it from a guy in High Prairie with the intention to swap it out for a SB V8. I was told the 22R, Trans n' case ran fine when pulled as he had driven it home. Mileage on the truck and original drive train is unknown, but I'd be willing to bet it's low. Seems pretty clear the owner prior had most likely used it for mild off-roading and hunting and took good care of her from the looks of it. IE Insane HD custom box, lighting, wiring, paint, original ring & pinion carriers in the box along with an extra 22R head cover (wouldn't be surprised if he had done some engine upgrades to that 22R motor myself). Heck I wonder if he put a Posi in the rear or front, I should jack her up and grab a tire and see. Closest I ever came to checking out the diff's were when I was ready to tow-bar her home from Hinton to make sure fluid wasn't milky or low - was neither.

Seller said between marriage, newborns and work the project sat until his wife finally talked him into getting rid of it (I think forced would be a better word for it though, truck was in the back pie-lot of their suburban home. Think she had enough of looking at it).
The hybrid motor (Late 20R Head, pre '84 22R block) I pulled from a '89 Toyota pick-up I brought back from Leduc. Seller and his H.D. mechanic friend had done the rebuild & put the motor into the '89 Toyota 4x4 p/k at his private shop. Instead of going with a carb P.O. wanted to fuel inject the thing (dumb idea if you ask me). Well he got the parts and electrical but never finished the hooking up the wiring. P.O. was decent with mechanical work as he worked on and had owned a number of older VW diesels - I'm guessing electrical was not his strong suit but more over his lifestyle and lack of money got in the way. He wasn't exactly well-off as he was living in a older townhouse in Edmonton with his sister. I went out to the H.D. Mechanic's place twice. From the first visit just to check out the motor it became obvious something had caused a riff between them as they rarely said a word to each other and of the few remarks he made they all had an underlying theme of "...get this truck off my acreage now...". P.O. was very much interested in getting it going, he actually came out with me for the ride to Hinton to pick up the 81'. His intention was to assist with building it up but that was cut short as he got a job offer that meant he had to move to B.C. -

I started gathering other part's for the build and researching the hell outta the hybrid motor's. Won't find much info online with the 4x4 crowds but this was very popular with the late 70's/early 80's Celica racing groups, forums relating to them have a wealth of info on getting the most out of the hybrid. In a nutshell, it provided a nice bump in C.R. (roughly 9.75 : 1 ), much better flow in, higher torque across the band, depending on how much time/money you wanted to invest anywhere from a 20 to 45+ H.P. boost over a stock 22R is easy to achieve. No upgrades are needed for the bottom end's are rock soild as they are well tested and hold up fine with even the most hardcore of builds. I would say (being modest) the engine is pushing around 30-35HP over a stock 22R (depends on your carb choice).
They couldn't source a 20R intake so they had machined a decent 1/2" steel plate to mate the 22R intake to the 20R Head, but I wanted to do this right. The 20R intake was hard as hell to find but well worth it (thank you Ebay!) as it actually divides into four separate round runners to the 20R head vs a 22R intake which divides into simply left & right, plus the intake is square which works against part of the whole point of a 20R round intake on the block. From research I found it seem's
Toyota redesigned and went with a square intake to help meet American emissions standards for 81' with the introduction of the 22R.
Started picking up other extra's, the rock sliders, Bull bumper, etc... Then some asshole made a left-hand turn at an intersection as I was riding through on my motorcycle. Amazing how the rest of your life can change in but a few seconds. On the bright side I'm alive. Basically the project froze where it was for me and after a few years I've finally faced the fact that I even if I did finish the truck, I would never be able to use her as I had envisioned as I'm still recovering.
Want to say regarding the rebuilt hybrid motor, sounds fine, no binding when I've turned her over at the crank, etc. Though I would never run it myself until I first either pulled the entire carb apart or got a new aftermarket ($350+) Webber or Holley (stock is rated around 185 CFM - aftermarket units run from about 200 to 400+ CFM and getting different jetting kit's is much easier/cheaper) but more important than that I would want to pull the top, make sure everything's as it should be - I trust the P.O. and his H.D. mech friend rebuilt everything right (have the Hanyes manual they used to build with, well used and full of notes) but still, for what is at stake and to breaking it in right I'd want to pull the top cover, make sure... IE. Distributors not backwards 180 degree's. Did they use Toyota's steel or aluminium rocker assembly? Valves are set right? For example, there is some difference between what Toyota's instructions for setting lash VS aftermarket builders, I tend to lean toward the latter... Also I'd want to see exactly where the timings at, with the higher compression if they went by the book it will not be right between the hybrid motor and elevation differences (could still run on 85 but I don't run anything on 85 anymore due to the ethanol (kills fuel systems!) 91 (E free) for everything esp. small engines. There is a serious reason you see vehicles with those E85 decals from the factory.

Should add that you'll need to either go to a Toyota dealer with bill of sale or a lock smith (with the key cylinder) and have a new key cut as I never had one. You'd need a new F.L. signal light corner lens cover and I just noticed other day the steering link bar has two cracks in it one on each end (still holds/steers fine) either replace from a junkyard (should be fine using anything from 79' - 85' or any later model that p/k or 4runner that got a live front swap) or needs to be cut open wider an welded with filler rod or could get away with cleaning out the splits and fill with JB weld (approx. 2" long and widens to little under 1/8" in the middle). Either I never noticed and towed it from Hinton like that or that was my fault, used a tow-bar and pulled it from the back of the acreage, had to reverse at one point on gravel, didn't notice till it was to late that the wheels turned to lock on me and pretty sure the stress did it (the steering shaft I had previously unhooked so no other damage done).

I will only tackle on project at a time , so ill probably pick this up and put it in storage

Or ill send it to my mechanic and say put it back together in time for MOAB and drive it south for me

I wheel with guys that drink on the trail. I have not seen it really have an affect yet, other the stopping to get another. To me the stopping is no worse than a group stopping to spot or take pics. I have never felt in danger from someone drinking on the trail. I don't encourage it and I don't do it, but I'm not gonna tell a guy not to do it. I really don't give a shit what other people choose to do. I just wanna wheel. Now once we get back to camp its a whole other story.

Im one of those guys that drinks on the trail. I love wheeling relaxed. Actually in some cases that could save you from stressing and doing the wrong thing like slaming on the breaks rather than just rolling through something that could have potentialy rolled a truck, dont know how well that sticks with you guys but im just saying i keep i mini cooler on the back seat and have the wife refill my bottle with sealable lid so i don't spill or slow anyone down.

Funny...I was just discussing this same topic elsewhere...

We had a small incident this last summer with someone getting a little too tipsy on the trail. All MT trail runs are dry now. I don't care if you drink in camp once we're parked for the day but on the trail its not going to happen if I'm around. Its wrong and stupid and puts the whole group at risk IMO.

Like I said I don't have a problem with it. I have yet to see any one in the gruop I wheel with drink enough to impare there decision making. Some of the guys me included can pretty much be talked into trying anything sober.

uh... Yes I was. I forgot about the Texans... I'm not sure the drinking had anything to do with it sadly... I think they are just wreckless... I was intentionally driving slow in front of them to slow them down cuz I thought they were going to roll with everyone hanging out the windows...
