Hi all so i am installing a new JVC double din in my wife's 2008 Highlander with an IdataLink Maestro RR.

    1. I only have Macs and a PC is required to program the RR. I can go to a neighbor's house to program it, but is it really required? what if i dont program it and just install it?

    2. What extra guages can i expect for her Highlander, and more imortantly, in my Taco? Im considering putting an RR in my truck too.... if it's worth it.

Will report on a taco install as soon as I get a dash kit to fit. The Metra kit for a 2012 doesn’t fit my kenwood deck.

You have to program the RR. You will download the firmware for your Vehicle and Headunit and apply it. I use a Mac too. I run Windows in a Virtual Machine on my Mac for these sorts of activities. For my Taco you get a ton of gauges. I was worried I would lose all the MPG stuff, but I didn't. If the truck computer is collecting the data the radio will display it. I found it funny that my truck is collecting not just Tire PSI but Tire Temp too. I am almost done with my build so I will be posting pictures this weekend.

Installed a kenwood ddx6903s with maestro rr.

Gauges wise: Got tire pres, Bat volt, temps, mpg, engine/trans/exh temps, range, fuel cap, etc...

Left side steering wheel controls work perfectly but the right side has been flaky.

Overall pretty happy with the setup.
