I am constantly amazed concerning the vast amount of information and knowledge on this site and the MUD forum.

If someone could categorize the information and get in on a flash drive, I think people would buy it. Rawles, the owner of survivalblog, does it with his site and my guess is that he makes a good bit of cash from the sales.

It is just an idea and something to think about.

Show of hands (or thumbs,) how many here have invested in an FSM?

I'm thinking nah. Most people will spend hours searching down something for free, if they have to pay a nickel for it they'll pass. It may work for some topics where a person gets a dangling carrot (read this, you'll get rich or whatever) but I don't think it would work for this one.

I have FSMs for my 2004 Tacoma and 82 FJ40 but still think the info on this forum is really helpful.

Oh absolutely. The point is, probably 2% - 3% of the members here have invested in the FSM, and I'd bet a good number of those that do hit forums before cracking it open (<---- admits guilt LOL) Whatever answers the question fastest. I just doubt the viability.

Another example is those that don't have the FSM can look it up online in PDF. Even that would be a "second choice" to a quick forum search.I you've ever downloaded it, using it is a bit unwieldy. The pages are all linked but there's no searchable index, etc.

No need to ever store or purchase info, now that we have AI.

Simply ask what you seek and vwa-la, you get…. Oh, never mind.

    what the heck is FSM?

Factory Service Manual, three volumes you can get for $170+ if you're lucky. Can't bring the computer closer to the truck.

It's not 1960 anymore. A few years back the powers that be started making these things called laptop computers. You can carry them to the truck. lol

The value of this site is in the discussion and knowledgeable members that can contribute to discussion. While there are hard facts floating around, it can be hard to pull them apart from the nonsense. I would love to see a wiki, but nobody has time maintain it.

Who owns the rights for the Toyota FSM or MUD Forum or TW? How will those people feel having a third party come in and sell their data? Without securing permission, I'd expect some copyright ugliness.

My thought was that the owner or someone acting under the direction of the owner could gather the data.
