    Hello All
I've been on the fence about selling my Leer 180x cap (sits higher than the cab) for a pack rack or something of similar use that can hold equipment etc. However living near Boston and parking in the city at night makes it difficult to keep anything in the bed without getting a tonneau cover.

Honestly I don't want to get rid of the cap so I was thinking - has anyone ever designed an internal hidden rack setup? Similar to a pack rack except something that mounts to the inside of the cap and allows you to mount Treds/hi-lifts/etc to? Granted you'd be fighting gravity but I'm just wondering if anyone has done it. It would be easier than making a cage for a car and I work at a shop who makes those all the time so this might actually happen.

Thoughts? And yes I'm aware I want the best of both worlds, a cap and a pack rack...

Don't have any experience with it, but I would think if you work at a place/have the fabrication skills, it'd be pretty easy to build a frame that follows the interior of the cap, then add mounting points to the inside of that. I'd suggest something self contained that mounts on the bed rails in between the cap and truck bedside, rather than mounting directly on the cap.

If you really want to go wild, you could probably fab up mounting points that can be swapped from interior of the rack to the exterior so you could use it without your cap if you ever decided to sell it.

Hm that's not a bad idea, I'll have to look into that. The downfall of my leer cap is that the inside sections that sit on the bed sides have a downward flare I would have to trim sections off of to mount a rack to the bed rails.

How about building a deck with pull out drawers in the bottom of your bed? Allows you to store a lot of the gear in the drawers, plus since you can pull a drawer out of the end of the bed, you won't need to climb in to access things stored in the front section of your interior cage.
