audis are nice but be prepared to shell out extra coin for maintenance once the miles start stack up.

I got a 2008 Prius for 8000 dollars and I love it. My moms has 200k on it, mine just rolled 100k, would definitely recommend

What's the battery situation in your experience? They will need replaced eventually, right?

I’ve heard they’re supposed to last 160k. My moms has 200k and they’re still in good shape, the kit to refurbish the batteries is like 1000 dollars and seems easy to do

The idea of a Prius is great. Low foot-print, easy to drive, reliable..but damn they are ugly as hell and I wish they had a little higher ground clearance.

Good info to know about the battery pack.

I would go with either a Honda or Toyota in a model that has been in production for awhile.

Subaru fixed the head gasket issue in 2010+ Outbacks BUUUUTTT they gained oil consumption issues. That was supposedly fixed in 2014+ models. Not even close to as high a failure rate, but something to keep in mind.

Our '14 OB consumes oil but not enough to warrant a short block under Subaru's warranty extension for the issue.

Edit:. Still absolutely love the car though

If you want reliability compared to your Corolla then shop for a Toyota or Honda. Both will outlast German cars and will cost a lot less to maintain. Good luck

This! I'm not sure why people are recommending VW and Audi. My friend has a 2013 VW GTi and that thing is always on a flatbed to the dealer at least twice a year. Great looking car, but just nope.

Agree! My one and only foray into European car territory was a '07 VW GTI with six speed. It was nothing but problems due to poor engineering, and I babied that thing being my first new car and all. Parts are super expensive even if you're doing your own work.

I begged and pleaded with my friend you bought the 2013 GTi as a CPO not to buy it. I explained to them that these cars require a dedicated owner, nope went a ahead and bought it. The CPO warranty ran out back in September and it's a DSG car that has yet to be serviced. I told them countless times it needs to be done or $$$

Buddy just dropped over $8,000 into his $16,000 audi q5 with 160,000mi. It definitely adds up quick. They are fantastic machines, but you have to pay top dollar to keep them that way.
