Wanting to lock the fridge into the bed when we leave it at trailheads. Only solution I've been able to come up with is to make a steel padlock bracket mounted to the side handle bolts, which would get blocked when there's a pad lock and cable attached.

    Anyone have a better solution?

Are you just keeping honest people honest ?

Is the fridge only in the truck when it will be needed ?? So it gets removed every week or so?

I made many secure locations for storing weapons in vehicles over the years.

Replace the hex screws for the handles with security torx, and run a thick cable through both handles to something secure.

It gets removed after each trip, its just to keep people honest when we are at trailheads or in town at a random night in a hotel if we are on a long trip...

used a bike lock to seat bracket when I had mine in the cab.

    might work in the bed.
I’d be surprised if there’s no aftermarket solutions.

that’s not including the potential for a locking camper and tailgate lock

do you loop that through the dometic handle? If so, did you do anything to replace the hardware so it can’t be unscrewed?

    thx

If you don`t change the hardware it kinda defeats the whole purpose.

You want to make stealing it has difficult as possible. Any way to disguise what it is putting it in something else.

This is under some sort of cover not exposed to the elements .

    Good luck!

    yes and no.

its easier and faster to cut the cable or lock than unscrewing the handle.

if they unscrew the handle vs cutting the bolt they deserve it.

    where do you have it
If it’s in an open bed probably not a good idea to have it exposed to elements like sun heat to work hard against and water.

if it’s regular bolts you can probably replace with tamper proof and keep a key for that. Maybe even two bike locks.

hopefully insurance would cover in the event of loss.
