Looking for a good non lethal tool for a self defense emergency while in my Tacoma.

A canister of pepper spray would be ok, except I don't think it's safe to store in a hot vehicle.

I started carrying this tool on my keychain, but it's a close distance option.

    http://www.bonetactical.com/bone-breaker-keychain.html

    A bat? Fish bat?

Anyone keep something they like? And where do you store it?

    Thanks for any ideas.

Bear spray. Look at the label for storage conditions. I would guess a vehicle should be fine, hikers have to leave them somewhere in between hikes.

What is your goal? It is always worth finding someone who knows their shit and can help you walk through common scenarios.

If you're worried about being approached, people often forget they're in a vehicle. Use it, preferably to extricate yourself from the dangerous situation.

    Bullhorn or noisemaker?

I have a wooden baseball glove mallet (for breaking in leather gloves) in mine. It has a pointy end, and a hard wood ball end.

I also have a handheld fire extinguisher that can be sprayed or a blunt force object.

But seriously, a mag-light makes an excellent weapon of opportunity. Why do you think cops still carry D Cell flashlights? I keep mine mounted to my drivers seat. Easy access and it's just a great tool to have.

I also keep my carry pistol mounted under my steering wheel with a simple paddle holster, Castle Law extends to your vehicle in Texas if you don't have your CHL.

The locks are pretty good. One thing the 3rd gen didn't screw up.

And then...that skinny pedal on the right. It helps you self defense your way down the road.

    Pepper spray.

    Taser.

    Rape whistle.

Seriously, if you're in a vehicle and feel threatened enough by someone or something that you have to either: A) Get out to defend yourself (instead of being able to drive away) or B) Have to fight to defend yourself while trapped in the vehicle (and unable to drive away).... then you need a much more serious tool to defend yourself.

Better than pepper spray is wasp spray, pepper spray can be illegal in many areas (schools are one example) I don't know anywhere wasp spray is illegal, may be odd to carry a can of wasp spray around a school but not illegal.

Was spray pros over pepper spray:
    Legal to carry anywhere
Doesn't have the stigma of pepper spray being a weapon
    30ft range!
Massively more volume greater chance of incapacitating target
Contains small doeses of a mild nerve agent, more effective deterent!
Usually requires hospitalization of effected rather than time and a hose like pepper spray
    Can cause blindness
    And more.

I know two people immune to all but the craziest pepper spray so don't hold too much faith in store bought spray. But they weren't about to let me hose them down with raid.

Ultimately though the only bad guy who won't be coming after you again is a dead bad guy. If you've made the choice that killing is sonething you can't do, even in a your life is at risk situation then I commend you for knowing your physical and moral limitations.

That said the spray I carry is of the 12GA ans .45ACP variety.

    I AM NOT A LAWYER.

Anything you could/would carry can be lethal, especially that tool. It is a legal version of brass knuckles with pointed areas. Pepper and oc spray are your best option for something somewhat non close quarters. Tazer is good but you only have one shot and you better be a good shot to get the barbs in properly, but then you could possibly kill someone with those as well.

If you are afraid of something happening or afraid for your life, use your head. A weapon is not always the best thing to resort to. Possibly taking self defense classes would be a good idea? If someone is coming for your life you should be ready to defend it, just my opinion though.

That there my friend is going to get your ass in trouble if/when you use wasp spray against someone in a non-lethal encounter.

His post reeks of terrible ideas and bad decisions.

I'm not sure what kind of encounters you guys get in while driving around, but literally just rolling up the windows and locking the doors is going to be your second best defense. Your best defense is to just...leave. you are in a truck. Probably a 4x4 truck. Leave. Even better... keep your head on a swivel and don't wander into a sketchy situation to begin with.

The mall ninja stuff is adorable. Even if you had a gun, your best option is going to be leaving.

Oh yeah absolutely, but no less trouble than clubing someone with a golf club, bat, pepper spray, GUN. lol

Even "non firearms" such as flint lock black powder rifles and replicas become weapons when used in assault or self defence.

However if some goonie is coming after me I'm grabbing whatever the heck I can to put his ass down hard.

Generally it's going to be of the near 1000ft/ps lead emitting type of tool.

Just wanted to give OP other options as many people don't realize most laws classifiy pepper spray as a weapon almost like any gun. Woupd hate to see OP in jail for trying to protect him/herself. :notsure:

If it's not worth killing someone, stay in the car.

If you are pulling weapons on people, you better hope they don't have a better one.
