I noticed a small but deep gouge down to the metal along the top edge of the door for my 2020 TRD and I'm wanting to seal it to prevent eventual rust. Any recommendations on how to prep/paint this? It doesn't have to be a perfect finish, I'm just looking for decent looking (hoping all black area makes this easier) to prevent rust since I'm in Alaska.

The B pillars are just covered with vinyl. You can peel all that vinyl off, lightly sand it down, wipe it down with some isopropyl alcohol and use a touchup pen to match your truck's color. Then you can reapply new vinyl there.

If it were me, I would just clean it up, use a black touchup pen and call it a day.

Ok, that would make sense, as to why the paint felt like latex paint to me... because it's vinyl! The gouge still went through past the paint and into the metal below, so just cleaning it up and covering wouldn't prevent rust. I'm wondering if I should try to lightly sand it and then cover the little area with generic black auto paint?

sand it, clean it, hit with a dab of POR, then cover with clear nail polish.
