I have a HID bulb that is out but I'm having trouble identifying it in order to buy a replacement. I never dealt with HID bulbs before. Do I need to somehow pull the actual bulb component out of that black plastic housing, or is the entire housing and wires considered a single unit? Can anyone please help me out? Thanks!

That is considered a whole unit. There is a piece still attached to the headlight housing. That piece is what fits the unit into the socket. If you pulled that out of a stock headlight housing, then you need to replace it with a bulb for a stock socket. I know in a 2nd gen, it is a H4 HI/LOW bulb. You will need to replace them in pairs. This keeps them the same color and operating time. Bulbs do go bad, but you also need to make sure it's not the ballast that went out.

Thanks fergyz! This unit just inserts into the back of the headlight housing and in a quarter turn, locks into place. I simply swapped this unit with the one on my other side and it worked so I know that this whole unit (as pictured here) is bad, and not the wiring and other power gizmos behind it (I don't know their proper names).

I was hoping you (or someone) would be able to point me in the right direction to purchase a replacement. Doing a search for HID bulbs in google returns a myriad of choices, and none of the bulbs look like the one here (e.g. with three wires attached to the housing).

The other piece that is still in the headlight - Bulb shield.
