I'm a couple of weeks into my first Tacoma and I'm trying to work out some gremlins. I have some (hopefully slight) rubbing on my upper control arms as well as the dreaded 20mph vibration. I'm hoping I can fix the rub with some new wheels or at least spacers. And I'm going to look into replacing the needle bearing and hope that takes care of the vibration.

Anyone want to help me figure out what size lift I have and what tire and wheel options that would give me? Linking a post in my build thread below with pics of the suspension.

Those are JBA upper control arms. The coilovers look like bilstein 5100s with OME springs(lift height depends on spring rate and perch clip used). the rear shocks are also bilstein 5100s.

Since you have the front diff vibration, you're probably over 2" in the front.

Edit: you have a ubolt flip kit with superbumps, and what appears to be a carrier bearing drop spacer as well.

Edit2: looks like an add a leaf, not a dakar leaf pack.

Probably need shims in the back to fix the 20 mph shudder. If it goes away in 4wd you need the needle bearing replaced.

Not a mechanic here, but those look like 5100 billsteins, generally the coil(specs) will dictate what setting your coil should sit at on those shocks. I would double check that they are not set too high for the coil. Have you tried balancing the tires?

I think your wheel or spacer idea is great.

Ah ok, I was going by the little Emu logo on the rearmost clamp. It doesn’t show in pic. But I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean Dakars.

OME makes add a leafs too, but it's possible it's a dakar pack. Look up any numbers on it.

Hoping to find some wheel experts here too!
Icon 3" lift all the way around.
Hoping to learn similar. Current Sport wheels are 17x7.5x +30 and I'm looking to buy 17x 8x +15

Thinking this is a wash, but would love some experienced input here.
    Thanks in advance!

I haven't seen many 17x8 +15 offset wheels( 0 offset is more common in that size) . However the 4Runner Trail wheels are 17x7.5 +15

Measurement from the center of the wheel straight up to the edge of the fender flare edge is 23" in the front and 24" in the back. So that would seem to infer that I have a 3" lift all the way around too, if I'm not mistaken.

    It appears that I have these 2016 4Runner wheels...|

According to that site, they're 15mm offset. So if I wanted an extra inch behind my wheels, I think I'd be looking for something with -10mm offset.

Also, just took a ride with my mechanic. I mentioned the needle bearing and ECGS bushing. He was dubious at first, but when he put the truck on the lift and saw how much play I have in my driver-side CV, he agreed that I need to replace the bearing very soon. I've ordered the bushing and seal, so hopefully this takes care of my vibin'.

Looks like the Bilsteins are set on or near the lowest setting. You see the little grooves in the housing that's where you adjust the height on these. Basically its like a snap ring you move up and down in the different grooves. If it is a 24-263108 then bottom groove is 0" lift, top groove is 2" of lift.

Those settings are only valid if reusing the stock springs, When paired with aftermarket springs they're usually set to the lowest setting and the spring determines the lift. Which appears to be the case here.

If I go the spacer route, anyone know what is the smallest spacer you can use without trimming the studs?

Why are you wanting to push the wheels out further? Clearance or looks?

Humm, according to the jba website you shouldn't be rubbing with those size tires and wheels.

It’s not much and it’s definitely only when I’m holding the steering wheel all the way in the turned position. Maybe it’s not a big deal?
