Nothing about righteous. We protect the lands and our access to them. Tools like the OP's subject...and maybe you...need to stay home at the mall pretending to be all offroady and stop screwing up things for everyone who treads lightly.

What hypocrisy? That implies those complaining would do something as fucktarded as the asshole in the OP. None of us would - mainly because we have a fucking brain in our heads and aren't self-centered ass-hats. It doesn't take being Einstein or Gandhi to know you stay on the fucking trail when the signs say to and that alpine meadows are easily damaged.

    Seriously get a clue yourself.

What a logical response. Comparing mental retardation to a human virtue.

Cold water does not preclude aquatic life. I'm no scientist, and it sounds like you're not either, but I would wager that perhaps the lack of aquatic life has more to do with driving through the creek than the cold water.

Sooooo, I'm just asking an honest to God question here, how did that trail start to begin with? :crapstorm: I mean, honestly, someone, at some point in time, "didn't tread lightly" and did so many, many, many times to eventually make a trail out of it like how you see them today? So, at what point is it bad to "go off trail"? :crapstorm: On an established trail like this one (i.e. even with signs), I understand, BUT, again, SOME ONE started the trail, right? Just saying/asking??? :notsure:

    EDIT:
I am NOT defending the guy, but just asking a simple question on who eventually determines "when" it is okay to go "off trail" and what gives them the right to make that type of decision? Honestly, I would not have done that myself... definitely not that FAR OFF of the trail!!! Maybe a few feet off to "clear" the trail if my rig got into some difficulty for whatever reason. Depends on the situation at hand.

A small handful of select mods.
Nearly all trails in Colorado were a former wagon trails or mining roads from days past. The exception to this would be private property trails or OHV parks. As technology and highways were developed, these routes were no longer considered primary roads and became scenic routes. Also we have "evolved" through the years and have realized that there isn't need to create new roads in these areas because the environmental impact is not healthy for the area.

Hence, Stay the Trail, Tread Lightly and leave no trace!
