Driving on the dunes is a huge “No” At every beach I have ever driven on. I hope this nitwit got fined bigtime for this. There are a lot of folks trying to restrict access to surf fishing beaches like Cape Hatteras and Lookout. Crap like this only gives them ammo. Don’t be like this jackass. And he managed to get stuck as well. Don’t worry, the Rangers will call a tow from the mainland, should be here in 8hrs or so and cost $400.

Thank you I hope you did call the authorities and have them ticketed. Min. dune fine (climbing, driving, etc.) is $500 in NC. It kills the grasses which help hold the dune. They are vital to lots of things on our coast and morons like this need to learn their lesson about it.

I have no problem with him being fined, but anybody who couldn't self extricate from that situation has no business owning a 4X4.

Update he got 2 fines one for damaging a natural habitat or something like that and driving on the dunes. So my guess is well over 1g worth of fines plus court costs. From my understanding too is there isn't a lot of pleading down for these or anything like that.

Well once the rangers show up, the last thing they are going to do is hand you a shovel and let you do more damage. It was out of his hands at that point.

What a jackass... Living in CA and witnessing the battle to keep the Oceana Dunes open is annoying in itself. But to see this kind off crap really blows my mind. Just because you have a tacoma doesn't mean you can just go anywhere...you kinda need to know how to drive.... Must have been in the fine print when he bought it

Not sure I see your point. Most people who commit a crime can be described as good people who made a terrible decision. Cool, but you still have to live with the consequences of it. And if the consequences are heavy fines plus a bunch of random strangers opining on your asshattery, then I say justice served.
