Idk why this is but the idle is a little rougher now. Will resetting the ECU help? No CEL.

yes, anything that changes the sensor signal changes what the ECM is telling the engine to do so it takes about 200 miles to reset itself.

what wire were you messing with?

you sure you didn't pull a vacuum line loose or make one crack by pulling on it?

    if you mean plug wires?

You most likely put 2 in the wrong spot.

doh! that completely went over my head lol, I assumed he was talking about wiring not plug wires.

MAJOR thread fail. Lacks DETAILED information. Yes, changing dome light wire causes rough idle.

or maybe this will be one of those threads where the OP never comes back to be clear about the question he is trying to ask

thunderone you could be saying you replaced the cigarette lighter wire for all we know so tell us what it is you are talking about, because we don't know

I will double check, but I was pretty diligent when I replaced them. No CEL, no real loss of power or anything so idk what the deal is.

I will have to double check vacuum lines.

I replaced the plugs about 6 months ago and did the wires maybe two months ago. I did not notice the idle being any rougher until after the new wires were installed. It's not super rough, but more like a low pulsating heartbeat-like roughness. Enough to annoy the shit out of you when your sound system isn't on. I've driven over 200 miles and the ECU hasn't recalibrated so I'm thinking hard reset? It seems to pulsate the idle in the same manner it did before I changed the wires, just more pronounced.

Thought about seafoaming but I'm really trying to stay away from that unless absolutely necessary.

Sounds like a loose coil pack, bad loose plug wire or improperly seated plugwire over plug.

replace the plugs from the dealer with OEM pre gapped ones for your truck and either order a new plug wire kit from toyota or rock auto,, dont buy the generic ones from places like vato zone.

Napa may have a good oem alternative though.

plugs should be replaced every 45-60k and wires every 100k or so for best results I have found.

If you get confused on the plug wire location there is a chart online im sure.

If you are using non OEM pre gapped plugs that also may be an issue, Our trucks like NGK and Denso only and the gaping is picker than shit.

I will check for loose packs and wires. I slipped them on and they didn't seem to want to come off easily to I assumed they were seated properly. I used a dab of dielectric on the plug ends. The wires are Toyota OEM and the Denso plugs I gapped to .040 (they were supposed to be "pre-gapped" but some were way under spec). The spark plugs didn't seem to cause an issue with the idle but seems to have gotten worse with new wires, even though they are Toyota OEM.

I'm thinking resetting the ECU may help the engine "re-learn" that there are new plugs and wires instead of thinking it should run on the old stuff.

well at this point it wouldnt hurt to check compression and the coil packs do sometimes go bad.

Truck has 150k on it, what's the usual interval to replace coil packs?

Put your old plug wires back on,,if you still have those. See if it goes away.

You can do them all at once, or one at a time to try to narrow down the new/bad wire or wires.

Even though they snapped on good, does not mean they made a good connection. Even though they are new OEM Toyota, does not mean those made a good connection.

When something like this happens,,the smart thing to do is to backtrack. It's the first thing you should do before flinging money at the problem.

Dielectric lube generously,,on both metal ends and smeared inside around the boot portion on the rubber that slides over the plug insulator.
