Being that it fluctuates all the time, I would bet money that it's the TPS. Change it and let me know. Remember after you change it it might take a couple of days for the computer to relearn and the idle to get where it needs to be. If changing the TPS doesn't fix it then I would check the O2 sensor. Even though it might not be throwing a code. But I bet it's the TPS.

Had the same problem with my high mile ‘99. Went through everything all the sensors and such to no avail. Was going to replace the whole thing, only problem was Toyota discontinued the TB for manual trans with cruise control.

Over time the bore wears out, but the grime build up counter acts it, once you remove the grime it throws off the air mix enough that the computer can’t compensate for it.

Sent it off to Max Bore to get rebuilt. Problem solved.

The throttle body is the same for Manuel or automatic transmission. It doesn't matter and also cruise control. It's the same throttle body. Just has a different hookup on the front. Which can be removed from ur old one. Some have two hook ups (for the cables) and some have 3. I think I've even seen 4. But it's that silver mech. On the front of the throttle body. Someone didn't know how to help you at the Toyota place. ( Very common).I might need to correct myself. I'm talking about the 3.4 and 3.0 motors. Which is what I thought you were referring to. Not so sure on the 4 cyl.

Oh now I remember what it was…Auto doesn’t have a dash pot on it. That and the length of the TB is different, while yes you can make one off an auto work…without the dash pot isn’t the best.

Searched for months for one from several dealers, unfortunately it has been discontinued.

Ok. Anyway I heard that it would breath alot better and have quicker response after having them open it up some. Could you tell a difference? For other reasons, I've heard of guys sending their throttle body off to them.

Maybe a little better, but nothing that would knock your socks off. Picked up 1-3 mpgs, but think it was performing so bad before it brought it back to somewhat normal.

You’re welcome. It won’t hurt anything, just be annoying. Drove mine for months while I looked for a solution. Check local hot rod shops, they might be able to do it for you. Could always buy a spare from a salvage yard, which may cure the issue…or at least make the truck drivable while yours is getting bored and a new butterfly.

When I first put mine on after rebuild it wouldn’t idle, disconnecting the battery for 10 seconds to reset it cured that.

Here it is after, nice and tight again. Notice no space around the butterfly and the bore.

Had the same problem. My idle was over 2000rpm. Watch YouTube on how to reset the idle but nothing work. So I went back to retrace and check all the connections found out that biggest hose connecting to the engine was loose. I had to replace the clamp and put Averything back my idle was back to norma20221211_174812.jpg
