@b3itz - They are the mounting brackets for the skid plate. You may only need to remove the driver side one, or not - for me, removing it made it easier to rotate my ratchet.
Edit: actually, for using my pry bar on that bolt.

I can't get a socket on the bolt head with the oil cooler in the way.
My wrench head can't get a good enough grip
