Learning to do it myself was a better investment.

Ive had a few come in with transmission concerns. Topped off the fluid, cleared memory, and sent them on their way. Havent had one come back yet. They bill out fluid check and thats what Im paid.
If I go on an hour long test drive with a customer trying to duplicate something its all on my dime. You dont find anything wrong you dont get paid. You find something wrong they may cover a few tenths of an hour not the full time you had into it. Its becoming a very broken system. Good techs leave the industry because the more skilled you are the less hours you make. Warranty doesnt like to pay anything and the dealer doesnt want to pay either, both at the cost of good customer service.

not sure the techs would want that. I took my moms Olds in once for a water pump. The book said 1-1/2 hours. It took the guy 8 but he charged me by the book.

So the service manager just emailed me back as a follow up and said they filed a report with Toyota and will keep an eye on new trucks coming in. I didn't even ask. Good on them.

Sounds like Medicaid and Medicare. Patients come in to see the doc and have a procedure done. Insurance pays about half of what commercial insurance would have paid. Paying with cash? You'll get charged far more than what they would bill insurance.
