Also, the mod that started my TW life.

My 79 Mustang didn't have intermittent wipers, my first car when I was 17. Back then I bought a universal device from Caldor and wired it in. First night out with my truck and finding that I said "there's gotta be a way to do this", using the Google machine brought up the TW threads on changing the stalk.

Nope. Not because of the Tacoma itself. I don't care for Toyota. After 31 years of driving nothing but Toyotas their customer service leaves a lot to be desired as of late. We are looking for a new small SUV right now and when I mentioned the RAV4 my wife said no way after the problems we had with her 13 Sienna and my 17 Tacoma. Twice the Sienna was in the shop for repairs that Toyota said were not needed while under warranty and then said they were needed after the warranty expired. My Tacoma was in an accident and sat for 3 months because Toyota kept sending the wrong parts to fix it.

Considering I just bought it a few weeks ago, I should hope so. It's replacing a 2nd gen, so I guess I've got a type...

I don't know what the hell happened to the company that used to make the handsome and ultra-reliable 1st gen Tacoma/3rd gen 4Runner/80 & 100 Series Land Cruiser. Now they're all in on plastic bumpers and deep-sea creature styling with worse fuel economy and less power than any of their rivals. The TRD Pro Tundra doesn't even have a locking rear diff. A double cab Tacoma can max out its 1100 lb. payload rating from passengers alone and nothing in the bed. That's bullshit!

Toyota is in their malaise era, only with gaping maw fragile masculinity grilles instead of landau roofs. I was a Toyota fascist for a long time but my loyalty ends around model year 2004. If I needed a new midsize truck I wouldn't even shop other models, I'd get a Ford Ranger XL with vinyl flooring and steel wheels, power pack with 320 HP/355 lb.ft torque and a locking rear differential. The locking rear diff is a stand-alone option on any trim level, no "off-road" package, decorative skid plates or gaudy decals required. It also works independently of the transfer case, no grey wire mod required. Additionally, they have old-timey metal bumpers and real payload capacity.

For my work I've put over half a million miles on Ford fleet vehicles in the last 20 years and was never once left stranded. Two of them were even (GASP) ecoboosts, much maligned on this forum by people who've never owned or even driven one. Anyone in North America experiencing a vehicle breakdown on their broverland adventures in the middle of nowhere would realistically be closer to a Ford service center than any other make. But the only vehicle that's ever left me stranded in the last 30 years was my former 2nd Gen Tacoma. I do wish Toyota would stop coasting on their reputation so I can be a Toyota fascist again someday. RANT OVER.

Even if mine was *zero miles, and only 3 years old. Its the most headache free car I've ever witnessed.

Other makes are constantly at the dealership. So yes, I'd choose a Taco all over again.

It also meets all my needs to near perfection.

Agreed on the locker. My F350 XL has it and like you said, it's totally independent of the transfer case. Toyota could learn something there. Besides being a HD truck, the 350 does not blow me away with it's quality/capability. It needed front wheel bearings at 44k, even with the gas engine.
