Ford left me with a bad taste. I wouldn't touch the bronco. I can't see where it wouldn't have to constantly be back at dealer for something. There is still after 2yrs that first day reservationist still are waiting.

    No. I’d buy a Raptor.

If I can easily get back what I’ve spent on a new taco and mods. It would be just shy of a used raptor.

No body needs a Bronco, I'm sure the people who want one will wait. Not that they have a choice in the matter.

I know there are supply chain issues, but Toyota is selling a truck they perfected years ago. Toyota would have done the consumer and Toyota a favor by keeping the truck less technical. Instead Toyota added tech that people never seem satisfied with, and hiked the price up. Now people have to reserve a basic Tacoma, and play the waiting game.

I saw a maverick yesterday on the road. I like to size of it. I looked it up and it has some interesting aspects to it.

    CVT
    FWD
    42/33 MPG
    Cheap

I'm in the market for a new truck. I'm adamant about driving a stick shift. Tacoma's are the only option.

    * If you were buying today, would you still choose the Tacoma? Why?
Definitely- the Tacoma is the quintessential Toyota. It’s the truck of Isis- who are busy blowing up mosques and can’t be troubled with reliability issues.
    * If not, why? What would you buy instead? Why?
    * What problems have you had that disappointed you in the Tacoma? None - can’t find anything wrong.
    * Were these issues significant enough to cause you to doubt the reliability of the truck?
    * What other trucks did you look at before buying the Tacoma? I owned the Ridgeline, a totally different animal.
    * What did you like & dislike about them. My single biggest complaint with the Ridgeline is the cylinder deactivation that cuts down power output to 3 cylinders and leaves you with zero initial throttle response.

This is my first post, so here it goes:

If you were buying today, would you still choose the Tacoma? Why?
Leased a Tacoma in 2020 (the deals then were insane). Didn’t expect to like it, and always preferred full-sized trucks. But this deal was too good to pass up. My wife and I both fell in love with it — she now drives it as much as I do. Since it was time to turn it in, I ordered a new one. Going from a 2020 Tacoma TSS w/ 4 cylinder and 2WD (remember: it was just a lease deal) to a 2022 Tacoma TSS w/ a V6 / 4WD.

    * What other trucks did you look at before buying the Tacoma?
We looked at the Nissan Frontier and the Ford Ranger/Maverick. All three seemed inferior, and only the Maverick was substantially less expensive.

    * What did you like & dislike about them?
I know the TSS stuff is all gimmicky, but I like the look. It’s gorgeous. And I found that it’s much easier to park downtown, in small airport parking lots, etc. The 4-cylinder was obviously pretty small, and 2WD isn’t great in the winter. Looking forward to the new one.

I would consider a 4Runner but definitely Tacoma would be my second choice.

Tacoma, yes. 3rd gen, fuck no. I would find the mintest 2015 TRD Off-road and probably pay crazy $$$$$ for it!

Couldn’t agree more with this statement.
Recently picked up a ‘21 TRD OffRoad, my wife wanted a Tacoma… sure get a Tacoma I said. End result, she prefers to drive my ‘06 GX with over 200k miles on it & I’m stuck with this 3rd gen heap. The truck actually “might” be okay but the engine/transmission are junk.

I have the AWD turbo 8 speed getting 33 mpg. Yes I drove 200 miles with 350 left in the mountains at 7 to 9500 feet.

To answer the op, Love my Tacoma but the ecoboost ford has is very good and be hard to chose between the ranger tremor or TRD off-road

I have a deposit on a Cybertruck. But I’ll enjoy my Tacoma for a while until it’s ready. I love this damn truck and couldn’t see myself in anything else atm

I’ve just got sucked back into the Tacoma world rabbit hole while taking a break from packing for an out of state move.

now onto the question - I have two tacomas, a gen 2 4cl 5sp SR5 access cab that’s completely stock aside from all terrain tires and I’ve got a pretty well kitted out gen 3.

I never sold the gen 2 after my new purchase as 1: didn’t need the money 2: can’t replace it for what I’d get for it, but most importantly 3: it’s a gotdamn good truck. I’ve kept this one stock because I like to do truck stuff like hauling shit and actually using the bed. The transmissions/gearing on the gen 2 seems to be better than my 6sp gen 3.

for the gen 3, I honestly wanted a toy - it’s my dream truck that I get to kit out with the support of a fucking huge aftermarket. I have this thing so totally dialed in (to my needs) and have likely put around 20k into it aftermarket (holy crap). But the point I’m getting at it that I LOVE the gen 3, looks being a huge part of that but having a sunroof is sick, among other creature comforts.

and as an owner of two tacomas you know what?!

A few, mainly added skids. I like leaving the suspension alone. I drive forest service dirt roafs in the desert west extremely extremely too fast. Toyota nailed this suspension going 65 across desert terrain. Changing it is dumb unless you have a specific need like crawling or mud.

    Holy shit.. same experience...

I went from 2007 to 2022 total happy with my truck. I only upgraded cause my wifes new truck was soooooo nice. No more CD changer no more cigarettes lighter...
