The Sport ACMT is the lowest trim level manual, the Colorado/Canyon do have those weird shock mounts that look like they would easily be damaged.

My 4 year old 1/2 ton work chevy has two warrantied new transmissions in less than 80k miles with zero towing or hauling so Chevy is a hard pass for me. One of which left me stranded in the boonies out of cell service 3 hours from home.
I loved my Taco and had zero issues but ended up selling and getting a Tundra instead. If the Taco had the 5.7 and capabilities, id have kept it.

Can you run non-91/93 gas in the 2.3L? Yes. But I honestly didn't feel comfortable putting anything else in it. I plan on traveling to places where gas quality may be somewhat questionable and I didn't want to be beholden to 93 or brick my turbo engine.

Then there's the aftermarket support. There are things I want to do with my truck that just aren't supported in the Ranger market. I don't have sufficient tools nor sufficient skill to do all the fab for the Ranger myself and everyone I know that I could work with is on the other side of the country.

Amazing daily truck. Amazing work truck.

I've ALWAYS been a Ford guy. First vehicle was an F150 that I learned how to work on trucks with.

The Tacoma is superior in my current and particular situation. I think the difference is pretty minuscule, but the fact that I can sell my truck for what I bought it for really makes this easy.

You could also bring up that the 2.3L is unproven in long-term reliability. High mileage Rangers seem to be holding up, but 5-10 years from now that may not be the case.

Once I start my build thread, I'll probably go into more detail.

I have had many Toyotas, several Tacomas new and used, and 6 new 4Runners since 2008. Traded them all at 50K miles, no issues, just traded. I now have a 2018 4Runner 4X4 and an '04 Tacoma, (keeper).
Just traded the 4Runner for a new 2021 Taco, OR DC 4X4, build date, 7/26.
4 Runner has 30566 miles on ODO, I paid $36,488.00 for it 4/18. Three weeks ago, snagged an allotment just about what we were going to order. Dealer gave me $36000.00 + the $500.00 incentive, for the 4Runner.(Military). The Taco is coming in around $41K. Where else can you get a deal like that ?
I love the BowTies, and switched, never looked back. The Vettes are a different league.

On one hand I agree with you and I really like the security of an enclosed space especially if I have to get up and go in a moment's notice however I found the 6' bed in my access cab with a camper shell is so versatile. If I need the bed I can use it and I don't risk dirtying the interior of an expensive vehicle. If I have to haul tall items I just take the cap off no problem. For camping all I do is put a high r-value air mattress in the bed and myself and my s/o can fit in it. I'm looking into cutting up an old foam mattress I have just so the dogs don't have to miss out on camp nights but it just doesn't have the insulation of my air mattress so I may need to go for something better and I might as well custom cut at the same time.

edit: our landfill charges extra when you bring things that are unsecured and the canopy is always a secured load. Yard waste is free because they compost it but if it isn't secured you take a hit.

Hell yea; the versatility of the 6ft bed is unmatched.

Can't take the cab off a 4runner and put it back on.

2020. First Tacoma. Yes. I’d buy again. It fits what I need in a truck right now.

I do miss the torque of a V8, though.

I wouldn’t. I love my truck. But Toyota is the worst company I have ever dealt with, dealer level and corporate. Just shady and d bags. Try to charge for warranty work and hardly do the services it’s brought in for. Never had issues with jeep, vw, Honda, Harley, Suzuki, Kawasaki, gm, Volvo, Mitsubishi and more. Taco is good stuff. But F Toyota

I’m actually starting to look at a new truck/vehicle for my wife, so I’m doing research (larger budget allocated , but I’m old lol). My wife and I are going to be empty nesters Soon. We own a small horse farm, and even though we rarely tow horses my wife wants a truck . She may not, she also likes the Land Cruiser. She now thinks she wants to buy a full size and put 7-10k in it making it “red neck “...I’m serious.

I’m not going to buy a diesel as she does not need it and I don’t want the maintenance costs. I’ve looked at a lot of full size trucks...the tundra seems the clear SMART choice. I actually thought briefly about getting rid of my truck and buying a Tundra (I like the 1794).

I’ve decided to keep my truck....for the same reasons I’d recommend the Tacoma to anyone not needing to tow (anything other than a few thousand pounds occasionally). Sounds like you’d love the Tacoma too.

    - I bought my truck new in Jan 2019....I now have 118k miles on it, many of those in 4WD. No issues

    - This truck is a breeze to maneuver on small trails , handles well in major cities, has great 4WD capability in stock form.

    - it is comfortable for me and an occasional passenger...the back seats are not great for anything other than short trips.

    - The storage under/behind the rear seats is terrific... (I purposely did not get the subwoofer radio option...George Strait doesn’t use a lot of bass). I keep a lot of stuff for around the farm back there.

    - I average 21-23 MPG on the highway

Bottom line I have dealt with Schutzhund Trained German Shepherds for many years....the GSD is not number one in any category but for all around Tracking, Personal Protection, Off leash obedience....I have not found a better all around animal. To me the Tacoma is like my GSDs. I wish you luck...don’t rush into a deal....it’s your money get what YOU want.

My son has a 1st Gen TRD Off Road 4x4 too....great truck as well.

Damn good question re the fuel. I've never owned a vehicle that wasn't naturally aspirated of any kind. But yes my 2010 4 cylinder runs just fine on 87 octane.

Def not gonna argue the aftermarket support if that's a thing you want of course. I grew up GM and would still be if they didn't cheat me out of the warranty work on my engine with my 06 Colorado. Not long prior to that I saw what Toyota did for my wife with her 96 Tacoma..and as I said to the GM rep, "you're telling me a 4 year old engine daily driven and maintained puking is more likely than a 13 year old truck in MA having rust? I don't think so"

I doubt anyone could feasibly argue your point re resale.

My 2010 has power nothing haha..except my stereo. Oh and it didn't even have intermittent wipers when I bought it
