If I buy kings or fox shocks without any tune, will they ride really stiff?

Order from accutune tuned for your truck, install them, drive and be merry. You can’t go wrong with either brand.

it says they support only 1.5" of lift. Any of the kings extended closer to 25.5/26"?

Even on filthymotorsports site it says anything over 1.5" rear lift you need "custom rear shocks"

Unless you do a shock relocation you can really only use the OEM King shocks. The OEM King shocks will support your Dakar’s and 3” of lift but you won’t droop a whole lot.

To maximize your Dakar’s you would need to upgrade to a 12” shock and do a relocation. However, with a relocation you will also need extended brake lines and wheel spacers.

Are fox shocks the same deal in the rear? Maxing out 1.5" lift?

You can technically lift the vehicle as far as the shocks will extend but you sacrifice droop and down travel.

You’ll run into the same issues with all brand of shocks.

i have an SR-5 i just upgraded to fox 2.0 suspension front and back, it does ride stiff but it's seriously so much better than the stock SR-5 suspension. doesn't lean in turns and it doesn't sway when i hit a pot hole/bump in a turn.

The shock relocate kit is money well spent hell still comes out cheaper than just oem geometry Kings if you go with the smoothie no resi like I did. You should into a HD hanger as well I went with BAMF for my setup and have been extremely pleased with it.

Was it absolutely necessary to remove the bed to mount the new bracket, or is it just recommended?

Looks like fox (accutune) might make a rear shock with a 1" extension built in already! And I actually think I saw that kings have an option for this too

No probably not but it made the install 100x easier. The bed is really easy to remove just have a friend to help pick it up.

Shoot, it might actually workout better to remove the bed so I can install a 1" body lift at the same time. Haha

The kings have whats known as a “Dakar” option which extends the rod 1in I believe. However prior to the smoothies I had king ext. rears for the stock location with HD Dakars never had a issue.

Not sure it’s worth it for that price. My 12” kings with compression adjusters were cheaper than that and King did a custom valving for me.

You can get the extended Kings which removes the spacer and provides up to another 1/2” of travel.

You may be overthinking things, I personally just don’t see the benefit of trying to pinch as much travel out of the stock shock locations.

Buy from a reputable vendor (down south motorsports, Filthy motorsports, Accutune) and they all have specific valving for different setups for the customers needs.

All these vendors do is drop ship with their specific valving right from the shock manufacturer. All my Kings were shipped that way from two separate vendors.

    And @JoeCOVA....nailed it.
